Ok well my school used to go from 7:30-4:30 a long time ago but changed to 7:45-4:00. But to make up for the lost time, since we do not have Religion classes during the week (it's a Catholic school) they have us come to 8:00AM Mass every Sunday in our school uniforms. Then we have a quiz about what was talked about in Mass, and Religion class until 12:30PM. We can leave, but they have a chance for Religion extra credit points from 1:00 to 3:00PM, which my mom always makes me stay for, even though most of my friends go out or home. Is this fair? Can they do this? By the way, yes this is a school in the USA.

It's a private school - they can require pretty much anything they want.

Sounds like most of your friends are outside of private school. Since this is a requirement of the school, probably by your parents' choice, there is not a lot you can do. How can you make this fun and still get full credit? Are the instructors receptive to ideas from the students? Can you invite people from the outside to one of the masses? Can you make this up any other time during the week? Good luck!

Yes...if you are in school and your parents make the rules as the school does. Just go with the flow. Don't be so stubborn. Sounds like you could use a little religion. Stop making it hard on your mother who loves you and only wants the best for you. You will appreciate it in 20 yrs.

Private schools can make their students do whatever they want.

You don't have to *like* it or believe it, though I doubt if any college will really care what grade you get in your religion class when you're applying for an undergraduate program. It probably wouldn't hurt you any to skip the extra credit Masses.

Since they are a private school they can make all the rules they want. Weather you follow them is up to you. They can't make you do anything. Sounds like you need to have a serious talk with your mom, not the school.

first of all your parents are legally able to make you go. Second, if its a private school, and you signed papers to go there, you have to follow the rules. Read all the handbooks, conduct codes and stuff. Going to church is a lot better that finding trouble on the street.

You asked two questions here. Answer to the first one is no it's not fair. Answer to the second one, 'can they do this', yes as it's in the US it's probably legal. After all you've allowed 'them' to take away so many of your freedoms recently, even Christmas is affected, I hear you now have to refer to it as The Holidays. Crazy!

they can. i think we should not be made to lisen. God gives ur free will. i feel your pain i used to hate church when i was younger my mom would always ask me what the cermon was about. i never really lisened. now i'm with God because i want to and i lisen because i want to know what the lord has to say to me. you should talk to your mom and tell her that you don't want to stay. but just don't get away from God. some times people get so cought up in the church that they forget that you don't have to be in church 24/7 to be with God he is every where.
