where's the best but reasonable place to stay in nyc?

i want to go to nyc, but want to stay in a good place, but one that is reasonable for 2 days. preferable in manhattan. near times square.

If you are on a budget
New Jersey and take a shuttle each day from NJ to the Allied JUnction/Frank Lautenberg Station each day in Secacus
10-12 mins to NYC .
Save a bundle of money. No parking at the shuttle station.
But hotels-motels have vans.
