It is the other way around. Sometimes, when they are getting close to starting the cruise, they have to fill rooms fast. So they give last minute discounts. I have been on that cruise and I had a really good time as well. We hit some heavy weather and the bow of the ship was really moving. The disco was rocking, literally, when the ship would start to dip you could jump and really get some air. it was amazing to watch. Van Halen playing JUMP and people going into orbit..

For reference, I paid $399 for a seven day Western Caribbean cruise. I got this price by booking almost a year in advance, and getting in on a one-day sale with a past guest promotion. If you deal with Carnival direct, they guarantee the price. If it decreases, they will match the current lower price. They do not increase your price once you book. Also, you cannot count on booking a week before. I know people who have tried this, and not been able to find anything. This was on all of the cruises out of Florida.

And in Florida, it is a lot cheaper to cruise in Sept and Dec. Last year I paid $299 for a five day by booking about seven months in advance. June is traditionally an expensive month for cruising. It is when the summer vacation season starts. As a past guest, you would probably have the opportunity for a better deal with Carnival.

it depends on where you are going, differnt ports cost more money and how long it is. a travel agent told me the best way to figure it its a good deal is if it is broken down 100 dollars a day or less for the cruise... so if you are going on a 6 day cruise and it cost 400 its still a bargin. cruises do give deep discounts the week before just to get rid of the rooms. carnival does offer past passenger discounts and they will also email you specials. also go on their site and they have a section for specials. the prices of crusing really never went up since i started cruises a few years back... cant say the same about air fare

$229 pp is a good price for a 4-day cruise.

Carnival does have the best prices. If you book in advance you have your choice of cabins (a great benefit), but make sure that if the price for your cruise is lowered after you book that your rate will be adjusted to the best rate.
