Cats can see in the purple, blue, green, and yellow range and can see more shades of gray than humans can.

In some science magazine (maybe Discover?) many years ago, I'd read a cat sees color sort of like we do at dusk (as the light is fading)--most colors turn into a grey tone but strong color like a bright red will have a grey-red tone, etc. I know my female cat prefers pink, she'll pick out the pink things first so maybe their perception of the various greys is a lot different from us.

They see in color, but their greens and reds are 'flip-flopped'; their green is our red, and their red is our green. They also see us as the big blurry thing that plays with them.
