Isn’t it only a temporary arrangement? Once it has achieved its ultimate goal and organized religion has been abolished, our governments, colleges and scientific explorations are free from its hindering influence, and then atheism should fade away too. It’s like a military campaign; operation atheism!

Because it's capital AWESOME.

It ought to spelled in all capital letters to prove that it's even more true than anything else.

Tongue in cheekily yours,

i wasn't aware that atheism had an ultimate goal, and certainly not that that goal was to abolish organized religion.

i'm an atheist and i couldn't care less how people worship as long as they're not hurting people. i don't like organized religion personally but i see no reason why we have to get rid of it. if that's how people want to worship, fine, let them.

i'm pretty sure you're speaking about militant atheism. which also shouldn't be capitalized and should go under the same group as fundamentalist right-wing christians.

THAT'S what we need to get rid of--all the hate and judgment in the world.

I'm Atheist I spell it with a capitol because I like it that way. You don't have to spell it with a capitol. You can spell it anyway you like. Organized religion will never be abolished and neither will Atheism.

I usually use a lowercase a.

I tend to see more religious people capitalizing it, and I assume it's because they think in terms of black and white. If their beliefs form a religion, then so do the opposing beliefs (forgetting for the moment that atheism is not an "opposite" of Christianity--it's a lack of belief in gods). If Christianity is capitalized, then so is atheism, in their view.

It's only spelled with a captial A at the beginning of a sentence. It's not a proper noun cause it's not a religion.

Erh... let me see if I understand you.

Atheism should replace religion to allow science.
Then atheism should disappear too.
So if believers and non believers alike are no more, who's left?

Better not answer that knock on the door

I usually capitalize it to show respect for the philosophy, just as I capitalize Christian, Pagan, or Satanist, not a big deal really.
