i think prostitution in Asia should end. there are a lot of women in Asia who are either forced into it or sell their bodies to survive. it sickens me to see that horny bastards getting on women who don't want sex with them but have no choice.the sad part is that many of them lose their virginity to someone they don't want to lose it to instead of that special someone in their life. at school im sterotyped for being a slut because im thai and thailand is one of the most visited country for sex. and the fact that a majority of men who go after us are only into it because they only see us as house cleaning sex dolls. i think ending prostitution in Asia will make it a better place and there should be charities that help people in poverty. the only negative thing i think could happen is higher rape and a lot of protesting from asiaphiles.

but spanky, finding a good husband through prostitution is rare. ppl can almost never find their true love if they want to sell their body. but tell me, was your wife just a regular person(as in she wasn't a prostitute and had a regular job). u see, not all western men make good husbands neither do all thai men. many thai women marry white men because of the benefits such as money, going to america, etc. im saying there should be opportunities for thai women other then selling their bodies and marrying sex tourists. a lot of men only want us for color instead of our character. tell me honestly, how many men who traveled to thailand marry women for who they are then marry them for their nationality, stereotypes, sexuality, etc?

You think this is a problem only in Asia? Wake up, it's happening all over the world. Prosituition is one of the oldest profession in the world, don't blame it only on men, there are women who loves the money they make from it.

Well, you raise a couple of issues here - You are being teased for being Thai, others are teased for being too fat, too skinny, having big ears, a pimple.. well, you get the idea - yes, yours feels unfair to you, but so does theirs to them.. prejudice and meanness is ugly - -

And - as to your other issue of selling the body... most of the girls working have chosen it because it pays more than physical or menial jobs. And for many, it is a road to getting a good husband who treats them well and places them and their family in a position of prosperity that would not be available through another avenue.. If you can find a charitable organization that will raise the cash and just give it away, I am sure most of the girls will be willing to take it.. this can be an occupation for you..

You know, it is easy to preach from a comfortable Western life as to what poor people should and could do, but the realities there are currently such that it does not seem like it will go away any time soon - there are too many factors to go into but most of the ladies working in the bars have children from a Thai man who does not support their offspring... they often find a foreigner who will... I am sorry that you are stereotyped, but you should also be careful abt stereotyping others.. I have a Thai wife and it is offensive to be grouped along with men who want a "house cleaning sex doll" - and how many white/white relationships might fit into that category as well?? Ok? As you see this can raise many issues - I am truly sorry too when I hear people speak disparagingly of Thailand as if everyone there is a child molestor etc etc... good luck to you and remember, the people who say such things are exposing more of who they are by their ignorance than anything else..

You say you are Thai but have never been there , your question proves that , is your dad Thai ? If so how ask him how many tarts he has been with ! Also ask how your family got the money to send you to school in to another country ,exploiting others ? There are as many girls for rent if not more for the locals than sex tourists as you put it ! Learn the facts ! Can it be stopped , no, too many people making too much money ,been going on for years , and yes it is against the law ? You are very lucky , if you were born in the north east of Thailand what would you do ?

i have seen - and had experiences that even thai people doesn't have any respect for their own girls.

look at the house rules of the hotel saround khoasan road or siam area - NO THAI GIRLS ALLOW - because they thought all the Thai girls are prostitue or what? How about you as Thai girls - good girl with good job etc - but you can't allow as yourself and people thought that you're the same. that's discrimination - no wonder there's a slogan - same same but different ;)

there's nothing to stop it and it's so popular as it is.. Thailand is the destination of single lonely man holiday as farang :) beside of course the culture and the landscape and the sexy beaches.

Prostitutes can be had for "shorttime", which is typically for up to two hours plus round trip transit time to the local short time hotel. Alternatively, they can be taken for "longtime", to sleep with you in your home or hotel, for a domestic vacation to the beach or ancient ruins, to a movie and dinner, etc.

Mainstream Thai girls are not available in a sex-for-money arrangement. I've sometimes heard guys say that in Thailand you can take girls off the street for a shorttime sex encounter. This practically never happens. The only place you're going to get a shorttime girl is in a place with prostitutes.(nana plaza, patpong and something with cowboy?) Outside of those places, you will get only negative (and usually harsh) reactions from a proposition.

So it's choice of the girls self - do they would like to do that and go for money or not... no one can stop her.

No way to stop prostitution - it's economics things and it's not only in Asia ;) Eastern Europe more worst.

If Asia lived up to your ideal, you may suddenly find a dramatic increase in rapes and other sex crimes against women and children in particular. Would you prefer this scenario than a no-prostitute Asia?

Singapore legalized it to better control it. And visitors to Malaysia (a largely Muslim country) would find little problem getting paid sex.

"Prostitution" is the oldest profession in the world. Today it is a billion dollar trade; don't just limit your research to Thailand.

Do you know that thousands of teenagers from Eastern European countries have been trafficked to the richer nations as sex slaves after the USSR dissolved?

Hundreds of thousands of Indian girls (some as young as 12 years old) are sold within India and MiddleEast as sex slaves. There's much more horror stories. The Thai sex industry is thriving because the government has failed the people - it has not done enough to eradicate poverty. Look within yourselves instead of blaming the "horny bastards" who visit Thailand for sex.

(I'm not an idealist, only a realist!)

i just want u to know that not all marriage between a man and a thai ex-pros is bad ending.

There are many happy ending couple. the fact that the female respect the male more becos of his heart, and the male love the female as who she really is, is the essent for good and long lasting marriage.

I do see many failure too. usually in 2 direction:-
1. the male cannot take the "talks" by others. or the male is those very jealous type they suspect alot.
2. the wife feel money is not enough and look for better man.

Historical records show that prostitution was a venerable instituition in ancient China and Japan, and afilliated with religion and ritual in other Asian countries. This may account for the cultural sensitivity of matters sexual in Asia. As in Thailand, child sexual exploitation in India is culturally entrenched. There is an ancient history of temple prostitution called (devadasi) which is outlawed but continues.

Domestic prostitution has for centuries been a part of the Thai tradition. It was simply accepted as normal and it has been estimated that as many as 95% of Thai men have been to local brothels that are found in most every city of Thailand. Some say 95% may be high and more for sensationalism, but the percentage is certainly high.

Prostitution was mentioned during King Rama I's reign. There was taxation of prostitutes and brothels called "tax for the road." When Rama V abolished slavery, some females slaves were turned over to men who started brothels. Prostitution was legalized in 1934 by Rama V. He expressed his concern about prostitutes who worked in gangs with men as their supervisors. The situation was prone to violence , and the threat if spreading venereal disease was great. Because of these dangers, Rama V allowed prostitutes to be registered so that they could receive regular medical care.

Many Westerners are highly attracted to various physical characteristics of Asians, such as their skin, eyes, hair, and grace of movement. For similar reasons, Asians are attracted to Westerners. The attraction is also based on cultural differences. Asian women like it when they are treated as equals by Western men, while Western males like it when they are treated like minor princes by their Asian wives.

I am sorry that the people in your school are small minded. It is awful that some countries are associated with bad connotations like Holland and drugs. Whether you think prostitution in Asia should end, it won't but maybe being a good ambassador for your country will help and change some people's perception. Start reminding people that they have one of the nicest beaches in the world and that you can walk along the beach with baby elephants. That was pretty cool. Good Luck.

Who's going to end prostitution there? And what will poor women do to help support their families if it ends? You're talking about millions, or at least hundreds of thousands of people .... a charity won't support that many families for the rest of their lives. Many people agree with you that prostitution should end, but how would it happen?

Yes it should... but unfortunately this is a never ending argument and had been around for too long.

I am Thai too and I think our government is one of the biggest flaws in enforcing the law because the law enforcers themselves are the biggest patrons to these whorehouses.
