I keep being told that I need to believe in a higher power. Skipping the obvious question, "Which one, what are it's characteristics?" I'm still left with the question of why.

I've asked this so many times and no believer has ever pointed out the benefit of faith in a higher power. All the things they claim to out of it are things I can find elsewhere.

So what's the point?

There really is a BIG point here! All of us have a huge "need" ....and most of us look anywhere but to God who created us. We try to find happiness in drugs, alcohol, sex, work, relationships, entertainment....but it all is empty in the end because we cannot take it with us. We all die and we need hope. The only hope there is truly...is God who is bigger and higher and sees the big picture so much better than we do. When you give your life to Him He promises to protect and direct you and there is a deep growing happiness and fufillment no matter what your career, education, or economic status is. He cares so much for every single person that He knew about before they were ever born....that Jesus would have died for just one of us. He does not force us to love Him because He wants our love by our choice. THAT....is the point!

The point of a 'higher power' is that there is the 'promise' of LIFE after the life we live in this universe, on this Earth ... and I am actually 'really looking forward' to that, because I know it will be 'interesting' and will 'explain' a lot of the 'pain and suffering' we seem to do HERE for 'no good reason.' You can get 'something similar' if you take drugs, but it's NOT THE SAME THING AT ALL!

Everybody has an opinion of what others people should or shouldn't believe. It's really none of their business if you believe in a higher power or not. It's not like you can force yourself to believe something when you don't. I tried to do that and failed, so I left the church.

The Rev.,
Higher power is just another term for God. Many people refuse to believe in God, but higher power is a more subtle way of saying the same thing.

No point at all. People who think there needs to be a higher power are too insecure about their life.

i can tell you
the point is your ego or your self-awareness or whatever
likes to take credit for everything and think its the sh*t and a bag of chips
but its really just an illusion
so if you think that something that doesnt exist is god
(remind you of anyone?)
then you could wind up in quite a pickle
you could end up with the weight of the world on your shoulders
but what you are aware of is the tiniest fraction of what
is going on, even in your own body
so the good news is you can relax and things will
take care of themselves.
peace.

God the Creator is the higher power who created us in His image. This image needs to be restored because our moral ability has been corrupted by sin.

Jesus Christ is the perfect image of God, and we are re-created in His image by His presence in us. We are being changed primarily in our morality, in our relationship with other humans, and with God.

That is the point. Everything else that follows is icing on the cake.

you have 2 separate questions right here. the 1st, the call one seems to be undemanding-they do no longer. they conflict to by a mix of issues, which comprise medical care, prescription medicine, and alcohol, yet fail. because of the fact of this there is this type of extreme point of psychological ailment in western society. in accordance to Gov stats, interior the U.ok. a million in 3 human beings will adventure extreme psychological ailment for the period of their lifetime-rarely an insignificant determine. As on your 2d question, you do no longer know that he hasn't tried-he would possibly no longer choose for to talk approximately it, or no longer know a thank you to. it may additionally be that what he did he did no longer see as an offence-for occasion, a 17 year previous snoozing with a fifteen year previous ought to nicely be sufficient to get him placed in this type of register, yet in the event that they have been in a courting, he would possibly no longer have recognized it as incorrect. i'm no longer saying it fairly is the case, i do no longer know; however, from what you have stated, you do no longer the two. finally, if he replaced into abused in some way himself, this could bring about extreme issues in many (all?) areas of existence, and he could be as lots a sufferer as his victims. thrilling as all this could be, it won't be that effective. what's extra substantial is to think of and pray approximately counsel on a thank you to help him. you would be able to already be doing so, wherein case, i could choose for to motivate you to proceed. Edit: in accordance with Eric-Jeffrey Dahmer became a Christian in penal complex, as did David Berkowitz (extra suitable time-commemorated as Son of Sam). In the two cases, a great case must be made for them exhibiting indications of psychological ailment, aside from the obtrusive.
