I've been debating with my friends and family over whether Cheeto's are chips or not. I think they are and even though I've looked it up on the web, I can't find anything that says if they are or not.

I don't think so. I don't know if chip has an actual definition that excludes them, but I feel like chips should be flat. Anything else I simply label as a "snack".

According to Dictionary.com, a chip is "a very thin slice or small piece of food, candy, etc." or "a thin, usually fried slice of food, especially a potato chip."

Hope that helps your debate, even though I'm disagreeing with you!

Of course not, they're cheetos silly.

Wikipedia even calls them "Cheetos are a crunchy, cheese-flavored snack made from extruded cornmeal."

If they were chips, they'd be referred to as chips.

I don't think there are any guidelines for what a chip is exactly, so yes, it is, since it's a crunchy, salty snack baked (or fried, idk) that comes packaged like a chip.

Oh, and if they say they're not chips because they're not potatoes, then how about corn chips? Fritos? So, that's no way to decide.

Cheetos are cheese puffs, not chips. Chips are made from potatoes and Cheetos are not made from potatoes.

Cheetos are NOT 'chips' but they are a 'similar snack food' ... but I dn't eat them as 'snacks' ... I get them when I have a really sore throat, because there's something in the 'cheese and salt' that 'coats my throat' and eases my pain.
