My wife lost her gall bladder several years ago, and nothing changed in her life except the pain of gall stones went away forever. Stop worrying. Your mom is fine, probably much better off without it.

My mom just had her gallbladder removed as well. She can eat normally for the most part, but I've read that right after the surgery diahrea could be an issue. I've also read that in the long run there may be some damage to the intestines. She should probably watch fat intake since the gallbladder aids in digesting fats, but it shouldn't cause to much grief to have it out.

One can live quite well without a gallbladder. It's not an essential organ. I wish your mother a speedy recovery.

My sister and father have had theirs removed; they are MUCH happier now! The pain used to be pretty bad, but not any more. They miss a few foods, but it's no big deal.

Someone without a gallbladder needs to cut back on high fat foods.
