You can look at your police record at the police station, it's making a copy that costs money, however, your public defender can get you all of the copies you could ever want for free, the tax payer is buying.

In most cases you can begin at the local police department. The records are usually maintained by a state agency and the local police can advise you in detail. It is different from state to state. The information is free, though it may cost to obtain copies. Do not hire a company to provide the service it is a waste of money unless you are incapable of getting out and doing the work yourself.

If you have been arrested in different jurisdictions, you will have to go to the Record Section at each PD to get them. I doubt you will be allowed to look at it for free but you can pay for a copy of your report in most places (some may be free but where I worked, it wasn't).

You may not get information on things that were dismissed or your juvenile record, depends on their policy. The only thing we put on ours was adult convictions.

Be sure you take your driver's license or state ID with you and take in your SS card because they will need the picture ID to verify you are you and they need your DOB and SS # to make sure they give you your record and not someone elses.

You might also check with the Record Section at the County to see what they have and if they have everything for that county ~ some do, some don't.

You might want to call the Record Section first to find out what the cost will be to get your record to make sure you have enough cash on you. We had alot of people who came in thinking it was free and then had to run to the bank because we didn't take credit cards or checks.

Ask for a copy of your records. You may have to pay for the copying though! Some things will not be released to you! They keep records of everything, forever! Well almost forever! Even all telephone calls!
