Tahiti is absolutely georgeous. However; it is very expensive and the French locals are stand offish and not very nice. You will find that 85% of the people that visit Tahiti are honeymooners. So... it is not a great place to meet people or party. The beauty does make up for much of the hassle. Good luck.

We had our honeymoon in Tahiti and we really loved it.
We visited Tahiti, (Papeete, where you will land), Moorea and Bora Bora.
You wil have teh coice at the hotels to upgrade to the "overwater bungalows". I would recomend this. IT will seem expensive, but I think it is one of the main attractions there. We had a glass coffee table in one bungalow and could see teh sea life under neath. In another, on Moorea, we had a glass floor area for viewing.
In Moorea, we tayed at the Beachcomber, and ordered the breakfast to teh room one morning. It was brought to us by outrigger canoe.. so amazing to watch.
Also, at the Beachcomber, they ahve dolphins, who leave the hotel to swim in the lagoon, but are fed by hte trainers and they choose to come back and stay at the hotel as well. You can have a brief encounter with them. (but only supervised.. if you see them in the lagoon while you are snorkeling, they ask that you not approach them)
Bora Bora is the most popular destination in Tahiti and you will see the most tourists. Moorea is more laid back. I liked them both. In Papeete, you should take a trip to the market, just to experience some culture while you are there.
Otherwise, we stayed in our bungalow and avoided people in Moorea. That is a bit harder in Bora Bora.
Have fun!

Yes...been to Tahiti and Bora Bora. Bora Bora is nicer because there aren't as many tourists. Both are beautiful.
