Okay, I really, REALLY, want a cat or a kitten (of course I would adopt it from an animal shelter). My mom says no because she says I dont help around and take care of the dog I already have, but I DO! She also said my dog would get upset, but I know it wouldn't, I loved my neighbors cat. And its not like this would be the first cat we had, our first cat my parents got before I was born it died when it was 12 like 4 or 5 years ago. How could I convince my mom to let me get a cat??

I think everyone is on the right track here. First, you need to prove yourself to your parents. Take over care for the dog. Do it on your own... all the feeding, walking, bathing, and cleanup. And, even when it's gross, don't complain about it. Also, be extra good about helping with dishes and cleaning your room. In a month or so, ask them again, but continue doing the extra work to prove to them you mean it. When you do get a cat, go to a shelter. Many of the cats will come with histories, so see if you can find a cat who is more than 6 months old who is used to dogs. Your dog is pretty small and that breed tends to want to chase cats (playfully, of course). Introduce them slowly and with supervision until you know they are comfortable with each other. This may mean leaving one of them in a closed room when you are not home.

Here's the deal - you are living with your parents still, and it's not fair to force them to have a cat in the house if they aren't 100% with it -- because they are right, there is a chance that you could get occupied with other things and they don't want to have to take care of it. Secondly, not all cats will adjust well to a dog - and introducing a new pet, especially a cat into a house w/ another animal is not easy - there are certain steps you must follow....I suggest you go to a pet store and purchase a book on cats. Also, if you do convince your parents to let you get a cat I wouldn't suggest a kitten because they are super hard work and require much attention and may be scared of the dog or vis versa - I would suggest a "juvenile" a cat at least 6 months or older - that way you know the personality of the cat and somewhat of what you are getting into. Other than that you should wait until you move out and get your life in order and then see if you can afford to adopt your own pets.

Dogs generally handle new critters being brought into the household far better than cats do. So your mom is off about that.
Before you get a cat, there are things to think about:
1)The cat will need a litter box, which will have to be cleaned every day if you don't want it to smell.
2)The cat will need shots, and if it hasn't been done already the kitty will have to be fixed.
3)The cat will need cat food: The food that is good for a dog isn't good for a cat, and vice-verse.
Without knowing your mom, I can't give you any sure-fire ideas. But I can make suggestions.
1)Take over taking care of the dog- without being asked. Show your mom that you can be responsible.
2)Make more effort to help her with other household chores.
3)Write her a letter telling her why you want a cat. Make sure you sound mature about it, not like an over-excited kid.
Like I said, these things aren't guaranteed. But it just might make an impression.
Good luck.

If I were you, I would do whatever you can for your dog. Without your parent's prompting, start taking over the care duties for your dog. Make sure he doesn't miss any walks or feedings. Make sure he is also clean and has plenty of water available. You could also start researching on the web or the library about the behavior of Pomeranians with cats. How old is your dog? Maybe your parents are concerned that he's too old to adjust to another animal? If you take this summer to show your responsibility with your dog, you might be able to sway them your way in September. Definitely adopt from a shelter...I've done it twice and I have absolutely no regrets. Good luck to you when the time is right. :)

Best listen to your mom for now, hun! I'm sure you look after your dog, but your mom may sometimes have to do stuff for the dog too and maybe she's a really busy lady and is worried that she might have to help with the kitty as well?
You never know if pets are going to be upset although, truth be told, the kitty may be more scared of your dog! So lots of care would be needed in introducing them to each other, and there's no guarantees that they would get along.
If you REALLY want to convince your mom, educate yourself fully on owning a cat or kitten. Spend lots of time browsing the internet for information on cats and kittens, chat about it with your mom but DON'T hassle her about getting one. Just talk about interesting things you've discovered about cats. Did she know that cats have an extra smelling organ in the roof of their mouth? Does she realise how cruel it is to declaw a cat? Did she know that cats see in colour?
This way, you will show your mom that you are really interested in cats, and along the way you will learn plenty about owning one so that if she eventually decides you are responsible enough to own one, that you will look after it properly and without her help.
However, remember that cats need to go to the vets, not just for illness or injury, but for check ups and annual vaccinations, so these will cost money. This is something only you can work out with your mom ... perhaps do chores to help pay for any vets bills that come along?
Hope this helps, and remember, if you don't get a kitty now, if you really love cats you will have one of your very own one day :)

well the best thing to do is the help out more in the house. such as laundry, dishes. picking up after your dog, and maybe sweeping.
The only problem i see is that sometimes, if the dog hasn't been around cats alot, would get jealous if all of a sudden you start spending all yur time with the cat. The dog fight also hurt the cat too if he/she has never been around one.
