Why did the Puritans come over to this country? This country was founded so we could have freedom to worship God.
Look at the early documents that were written. Knowing the history of our nation gives us reason why faith was so important and why it should be today. Without faith our lives have no foundation. Where do we get our standards for how we are going to live? The Judeo-Christian ethic is what our country was founded on.

Faith is not just about religion. But I guess your question is in the religious context. Faith in religion is to believe in the existence of a supreme being that has no empirical / physical explanation. Once when someone asked Swami Vivekananda, "Is it good to have blind-faith on the master?", he answered "it should be fine as long as the master himself is not blind!". Assuming that most americans are christians, faith in christ is fine for them because they beleive that christ is their master / saviour. This applies to most if not all relegions. Therefore faith is important to all americans who identify themselves with a relegion.

I think faith is important to most people. Actually, I think faith is less important to Americans than it is to the rest of the world.

When a person has faith in general, it could mean a lot of things...............to have hope is to move foward in life. In society, and in relationships etc.
Giving up hope for someone is always at the last of the list. Rock bottom for anyone who has been there.
Having faith is always a check for good.

Faith in what? Without faith, there is no trust. Without trust, there is no sense of security and peace of mind. That's why it's important to all people, not just Americans.

It's a good question.
Over here in the UK 90% of people DON'T go to church and the crime rate is statistically far less than in the US.
We tend to be more pragmatic about life.

Why just Americans? I am grateful every moment of every day for my faith in Jesus Christ and God's word. It's important to me because my life without it, well...I used to have life without it and I would never want to live that life again.
