No. They did not have a "gay" relationship anymore than women in a FMF would have a gay relationship if they didn't do anything together. Even occasional touching between the same sexes would in no way make them "gay".
If there was some same-sex play than they could be called bisexual. But these are all labels. How about we just call everyone "sexual" and they are just that in different ways.

If they didn't touch, and they had no sexual feelings for one another, then it's about as "gay" as showering naked next to another guy at the gym.
