1. My Christian/Catholic friends always seem to want to shove their beliefs down my throat, but my Jewish/Buddhist friends never do. Why is this?

2. Why can't people understand that you didn't really choose to be the religion you are? Most likely, your parents influenced you to think the way they do about religion.

3. If God is almighty and giving, why is he letting so many people in places like Africa live through such a horrible life?

Go ahead and be rude to me, it's just yahoo answers. I don't really care, I just wanted some opinions on these questions.

I think what you said about the Buddhist religion is the same as what my friend said about the Jewish religion.

Okay, I didn't phrase #2 correctly. Just ignore that question I guess.

These are very good questions. First, Buddhism and Judaism do not proselytize. They both accept people as what they are. On the most basic tenets of Christianity is that you MUST be Christian or you are damned.

I do think the majority of people are the religion they were raised with. This is certainly true in countries where there is a predominate religion. In America more people are likely to make choices after they are adults, as we have more choices to make.

This last question is one of the reasons I am an atheist. An all loving, all knowing God, all powerful God could not allow these kind of things to happen.

1. I am sorry if your Christian friends shove their faith down your throat. Tell them it is not doing their faith any good. Don't assume tho I am sure Jewish/Buddhist people do as well. No reason just people like to be right.

2. You DO decide what religion you are. Part of growing up is Independence from your parents. Testing your beliefs and asking if you really believe the things that you parents have taught you. You DO have a choice so choose wisely.

3. This is one of the age old questions that people will never answer fully. The question is what are WE all doing to make their lives less horrible

1. In Buddhism we believe everybody does things according to their ability to understand or not... so if you want to become Buddhist, you'll do it. No point in me shoving anything anywhere, it'll just make you mad.

2. I did choose to be the religion I am.

3. That's why I'm Buddhist, the whole omnipotent god thing makes no sense to me logically, however IF (and only if) their religion teaches them wisdom, altruism and compassion, I don't care if they dance naked around a cactus munching granola...

edit/addition... there's something to be said for learning better punctuation... that is supposed to read "...around a cactus, munching granola." I've never seen a cactus much granola, just people's flesh.

1. Christianity believes, because of the bible, that they have to preach their word to everyone and try to convert everyone to how they believe, for some reason they think that means to jam it down your throat.
2. From what I have seen it is mostly due to parents and peer pressure but mostly fear. They have been taught from day one that if they dont believe then they are going to burn in hell for eternity. They think that they have to save you from hell so they keep jamming stuff down your throat.
3. I have no clue that is one of the many reasons I am a atheist.
Good luck with your friends. I would tell you to just tell them not to talk about it anymore but I know from personal experience, that wont work.

Karl, most likely a 70s have an effect on. They appear like a groovy band. I simply picked up their album. Anyway, well tune. Not their nice, however a well one. one million. Yes two. Sort of, despite the fact that they strike a cord in me plenty of My Morning Jacket, who is a present act. three. Well, you acquired the album title already, however I'd say Alt/Folk Rock? I do not know, classifying bands in no way works out for me.
