yesssssss of course it's horrible that he smokes... but this is the thing... you never know when your last day is going to come. how horrible would it be to know that you or your brother passed and hadn't spoken in 3 weeks over something as trivial as smoking? everyday that passes is one that you can't get back... just sit down and talk to him about it. tell him how you feel and why and give him a chance to talk to you as well. good luck!

You are hurting yourself by not talking to him. You don't have to agree with what he's doing. Unfortunately, if you keep up with the cold shoulder treatment, he still won't stop. Smoking is an addiction and no matter how much you wish he wouldn't, or no matter what you do, you cannot control or have any affect on his smoking. Tell him you love him and that it upsets you and why it upsets you, but don't let it come between you.

It's understandable that you wouldn't want your brother to smoke out of concern for his health, but is that a valid reason to estrange yourself from a loved one? We're not the moral compasses for our siblings...and you have only to spend a minute or two with someone who has lost a brother or sister to realize what's really important in life. Re-think your stance; you may come to a different conclusion. Good luck to you.

You should just talk with him about it and let him know how it upsets you that he smokes and the reason you don't like it is because you care about him. If you put it that way I'm sure he'll at lease be open to talk with you and you can get past this.

He's your brother and always will be. What he does is his choice and I don't think that you should let that come between you. Just ask him not to smoke around you. The time you guys have together is precious and you should have the best relationship you can possibly have.

Yes you should talk to him. Why let something so small come in the way? My husband smokes and I HATE it but I don't let get in the way of our relationship. I know how you feel. But let him figure things out.

im in a similar situation... my sister seems to have lost the remainder of her brain, maybe while washing her ears and picked up smoking. i lost a lot of respect for her after that. i mean you dont have to freeze him out cause he smokes, it wont get him to quit, but make sure that you and everyone around him show him that what he does is unappreciated, looked down or to put it in familiar terms: completely and utterly "uncool", dumb and rather "dorky".

well you shouldn't stop talking to your brother just because he smokes.. you arent solving anything.. you need to tell him how you feel.. that will probably make you feel better.. and he can tell you how he feels about the situation... but no matter what .... your brother will always be there for you...dont be afraid to talk to him... and you need to be there for him to..
