He was throwing up sunday night after not eating Friday and Saturday (the chicken my relatives fed him cause he was not eating) I brought him to the emergency vet, I was afraid it was bowel obstruction. They did Xray and gave him IV fluids and antiemetic. they told me to feed him a bland diet 24hours later. But he was not interested with the food. He ate some though and kept it in his stomach. Tuesday he did not eat, was not making regular stools of course. Wednesday he only ate boiled chicken and boiled rice again, but is not consuming his regular amount of water and was listless in my apt, he was not as interactive or active as before. Today I brought him back to his reg vet because he lost 2lbs from not eating. The vet said he was fine, looked at his Xray and gave me some reglan and Pepcid. He threw up when we got home. Now he's still not eating, I offered him I/D hills prescription diet, offered him boiled chicken and rice. still nothing. What am I going to do next?

hi, thank you for the response. I already took him to two vets, one on Sunday when he was throwing up and today with his regular to have him checked out again. She said she can't see anything wrong. She looked at the Xray and the blood work they did from the emergency clinic. When I take him out for walks he's fine, trying to drag me and trying to get attention from other people. And then i take him back to the apt and he's just moping around. I just want him to eat and be well again. What could be the reason he's not interested with his food?
He does not even beg anymore when we are having lunch or dinner.

try science diet A/D, wet food.
We always gave it to dogs when they wouldn't eat.
You did well by taking him to the vet, I would do it again so they can give him some fluids. They need to get some sort of stool out of him to make sure he doesn't have a tapeworm thing.

I know this is scary. It is very important to keep him hydrated. When my Shih Tzu had pancreatitis I took a straw and got water in it then dribbled it in his mouth. They can do without food for a couple of days but they have to have water. Sounds like something is going on with the little fellow. Have they done any blood work? I had to take mine to a different vet to be diagnosed. The first one missed it completely and he was getting sicker and sicker. Second one diagnosed the pancreatitis and treated it and he was well in no time. He could never handle people food though. Had to have prescription diet food for sensitive tummies. Good luck. I know how upsetting this is.

Ask your vet for A/D prescription diet. A/D is essentially pre-digested food. It has all of the nutrients your dog needs, but it shouldn't make him throw up. If he is still sick tomorrow, take him back to the vet before Sunday. On Sunday you would have to go to the emergency vet clinic, and that is very expensive.

Ask about Pancreatitis.

If your relatives gave him chicken skin, chicken fat, or even a lot of dark meat, then he may have gotten too much fat... this is a common problem with turkey given to dogs around Thanksgiving....

It can give them pancreatitis, which can get them very, very sick. However, I can't give a 'diagnosis' over the Web, so I recommend that you put a call into your Vet and ask if food given and the symptoms match that possible problem.

Give your pet the non-flavored baby pediolyte, boil some chicken ,put in blender with small amount of water and puree, most dogs will eat this when nothing else. Also put a dab of plain honey on its tongue to raise the sugar level. The pediolyte will elevate any electrolytes it may have lost during nausea.

I had the same kind of dog, it got a brain tumor and went insane and started biting me. I am not kidding around, insanity is a symptom of a brain tumor and this dog turned into a little utter killer. The first symtom was not eating. Take him to the vet. Mine had to be terminated.
