You are right. The place to start is the bible. Jesus indicated in his illustration at Matthew 13:24-30 ; 36-43 that there would come to be so many different flavours of "Christian" that it would be difficult to tell which was real "wheat" and which was "weeds" - but the illustration shows that the wheat would be there. And looking at Matthew 7:21-23, it seems pretty clear that simply claiming to be Christian is not sufficient. Further, verses like 2 Thes 2:3; 1Tim 4:1; 2Tim 4:3 foretell that there would definitely be a serious deviation from what was the "wheat" like Christianity of the first century and that that deviation had already begun back then (2Tim 2:18; 1John 2:18) Jesus did not leave us without guidance though. He gave us some information to help us determine who the true "wheat" are. Identifying real and fake religion is like identifying real and counterfeit money. When people learn to identify fake money, they do not line up every different kind of fake money and memorize how they all look- instead, they learn what real money looks like. Then, you can compare anything to it and know if it is real or not. Same goes for religion. What real religion looks like should match what is practiced, preached and followed in your bible. If it does not match- it is fake. That being the case, the fact that this religious group or that religious group is called "crazy" or labelled a "sect" would not rule them out. Jesus and this followers were accused of being demonic, crazy and were called a "sect" by the Jewish religious leaders (Mt 11:18,19; Mt 12:24; Acts 24:1-5,14 ) Further, the true religion should actually be really unpopular in general society (Matthew 10:22; 24:9; Lu 21:17) Jesus said his true followers would be lied about, spoken against and persecuted (Mt 5:10-12; John 15:20,21; 2 Tim 3:12; 1Peter 2:21) Jesus Christ spoke of those who practice true religion as worshiping God “with spirit and truth,” and truth is never at disagreement with itself. (John 4:23, 24) True religion has followers who sacrifice their own will to do God's will (Mt 7:21-23; 1John 2:17) True religion does not water down the teachings of the bible to suit human thinking (2Tim 3:16,17;1Cor 6:9) True religion does not mix paganism with biblical teachings (1Cor 10:18-22) True religion has true love among themselves (John 13:34,35) True religion is doing the work that Jesus and his apostles did and commanded his followers to do (Matthew 28:18-20; Mt 4:17; 9:35; 10:5-7; Mk 1:14; Luke 8:1; 9:2; Acts 14:21; 20:25; 28:31; 2Cor 4:5; 2Tim 4:2) That work was to continue until the end- so his true followers should still be doing it. (Matthew 24:14) By their fruits you will know them... Mt 7:13-20 There is more... but you get the idea. You can email me if you want more bible verses that help to identify Jesus followers. All the best!

Catholicism. This is something I´d like to make clear. Some people answered this question by saying that their christian churches held the Truth .
The only Church that follows the teachings of Jesus and the apostles is THE CATHOLIC CHURCH: If you call yourself christian you should admit that Catholics are the only ones who really deserve that name , because they have kept pure the faith of the apostles through the centuries (ok, there have been some bad catholics, but remember that Jesus was also a disciple)
Protestantism originated in the 16th century, Catholicism existed since Christ founded his Church upon the rock of Peter. The early Chrstians believed in the papacy, the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and teh perpetual virginity of Mary.
To sum up, the only true Church is the Catholic Church. Thousands of cultured people who were looking for God found the answer to their questions in Catholicism, the likes of Chesterton, Newman, Maynard, Belloc,Rabbi Zoli,O Wilde,Gary Cooper , Salvador Dali ,Mel Gibson ..to mention a few.
Jesus is the answer for today´s world -and the only way of finding him is the catholic church!

Consider that "religious denominations" are created forms of "interpretations' of "reality".
All denominations I am familiar with centralize on "God" as "creator".
No Bible holds all truth yet all hold some.
It is How you read and interpret by "definition or intuition" that makes all the difference in discovery.
Most religions border cultish acts of a sect. They hold little value to Truth and most Christians Prop the Truth up as thier own; as Jesus represented Truth, they claim Jesus belongs to them and those whom believe "Jesus" by Their private definition, can be "saved" and by chance if you do "your Christian"; you must buy into thier distortion to be "accepted" into thier faith; and this was never the intent.
This is what religions have become.
And with that said, Consider that the "Christian Bible" has much Truth within it.
As Jesus is Truth, and is represented as such in that : "I am the way, the light, no one may come to the Father but by through me".....is plain : " believe in the Truth, and seek "God" the Father in the Truth (self exploration)...
...as Jesus represented the Truth in the inner self and the 12 Deciples represented the 12 represented qualities of man and each character was "Played" out in a fashion we might understand to See the qualities At Work within our boundries of Reality, this way each could See how that character would be impacted and percieved in a physical sense; yet, as it was placed to text, it was taken as literal in occurence and again, a religion was born and truth distorted into a story that was given twist and turns.
Many other religions said the same message in a different method as Cultures were different within that area of teachings.
To have no spirituality, as one fails to practice such, how can one expect to find any truth in any Bible?
If you approach anything with dis-belief, it will be so.

No one denomination CAN hold all truth, because Christianity is based on faith...not cold hard fact. That's why there are so many variations on Christianity.

While I believe most religious denominations teach some truth, there currently exists an authorized Church of Jesus Christ, complete with prophets, apostles, and continuing revelation. It's called, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints," aka Mormon Church.
I don't think God necessarily reveals "all" truth to anyone. He only reveals what is best for us to know. This can include the truthfulness of what I've written.

That is a very good question, it is one that i have had for many years. The short & dirty answer is " Yes there is a Church that holds all truth ". You should investigate " The Church of Christ ". The problem you might run into is that there's some out there that have polluted the truth, so it makes it very hard for someone to see through the smoke. Remember ''Church of Christ", not the International church of christ, not the church of jesus christ of latter day saints, not the church of jesus christ, but " Church of Christ " let me give you a website for further investigation www.bible.ca

Protestants have a saying, "in the essentials we have unity, in the non-essentials we have liberty, and in all things we have charity." Basicly, christian denominations have the truth when it comes to essentials (e.g. Christ came, died, and rose again; He is coming back; we are saved by faith in Him and not by our own efforts; etc.). Non-essentials are things like eschatology (study of endtimes) for instance. And in the end, what it all comes down to is charity. Love for one another, the same love that Christ has for us.

As one of Jehovah's CHRISTIAN Witnesses I know that we believe that there is ONLY ONE TRUE RELIGION.
Other people believe that you have to go to all the churches in CHRISTENDOM and learn or dissect a bit of Truth FROM EACH ONE. That would Be AN ENDLESS TASK ! ! !
Which Way or Route do YOU THINK MAKES MORE SENSE?
