I'm not sure that any major English dictionaries recognize "text" as a verb yet, but following the rules of construction, it would be "texted."

This is one of those words that is a noun that became a verb, so conjugating it is tough. I think texted is correct, but spell check doesn't care for it.

any word that makes it "past tense". I know the word "text" is not past tense, and I use the phrase, "past tense" because the word "yesterday," which is staing an action take at some point in time, refers to the past.

'ed' makes it past tense, as in already done, so texted is correct.

Neither. "I (subject) sent(verb) him(indirect object) a text message(direct object of verb) yesterday.", would be correct.
