I once read a novel called "Why do men Have Nipples" the novel is filled with random questions and answers to them. In the book it said that there is no direct link between cracking your knuckles and arthritis so i would think that its the same with your back and neck, however, I could be wrong.

Any place that you have joints you can get arthritis. And that means you can get it anywhere along your spine.
