When anyone goes downstairs at work they ask can i get you something while I am down. I never say yes. If I need it that badly I will get up and go with them or just scoot off and get it. I dont like to ask can I get you something becuase what ever it is you have to go get it, carry it i.e. hot beverige or basically fetch and carry for the more annoying types. Is is this ok? I have noticed that some folks always say yes and then someone has to get something for them.

any thoughts folks...am i too fussy...i really dont want to bother with peoples requests?

Only offer if you want to do it. People may notice, but it *is* how you feel...and once you start offering, you kinda feel stuck doing it. Like mailing Christmas cards.

I don't mind getting something every now and then, but a friend of mine used to drive me nuts with requests at work, but not the breakroom variety. Any time I was going to any store...ANY store at lunch, she always found something she needed there. She'd make stuff up! "Lemme see...oh yeah, I need socks. Just white plain ones. Oh, and make up. Foundation...I think it's L'Oreal but it comes in a brown box with...."

You get the picture. On the other hand, sometimes I'm starving, and find out the boss is going to a great sandwich shop. Days like that are golden...and I finally learned how to accept offers as well as make them. Just depends on how much you like your coworkers, I suppose, and how demanding they are. :)

If you don't want to get something, then I think it's reasonable not to offer. On the other hand, if all you're going to do is go grab a can of Coke and you ask if someone else wants one too, it's not exactly hard to bring back a couple more. It depends on what you're going to get and how complicated it is to bring back as to whether or not you offer to bring extras.

I think it's a very polite thing for them to ask. Would you ask them if you were going downstairs? You can always say "No thanks." if you want to get whatever yourself. But sometimes if you're really busy it would be nice for someone to get you a soda or something. But personally I'd never ask for someone to do that unless they offered.

I do not think you have to offer to other people if it does not come out from your heart to do it.
