Well, isn't saying, "Oh my God" taking the Lord's name in vain? Therefore, ONLY Atheists should say it, because it would go against the 10 Commandments for Christians.

That said, I think everyone says, "Oh my God". It's no longer really a religious thing, it's just an expression.

And Atheists don't worship Darwin.

Practicing Christians usually avoid saying the former, since it's a totally-unnecessary taking of the Lord's name in vain.

Atheists, however, are perfectly free to say (or exclaim) whatever they want, since God has no relevance to them.

If God exists (and, as a Christian, I believe He does), then I guess atheists will ultimately learn when they pass on just how God feels about that.

That being said, though, I respect the right of atheists to believe (or not) as they do to the SAME extent that I respect that right for fellow Christians, or for any other religion.

Its just part of the lexicon. I dont believe for a second that Jesus is divine or any of that, and sometimes Ill swear by going "Oh, Jesus Christ!", and Im Jewish! It is just a part of common language, and has nothing to do with religion. To the girl who dosent swear, and asks others not to: LIGHTEN UP. You dont get to tell other people what they can and cant say. If you dont like it, perhaps you should not have a computer and live in a cave, far, far away from civilization. I know thats rough, but get over yourself.

I say "Oh my God" or "Jesus f*@!!ing Christ!" all the time. So what? It's just an expression. Just as how somebody who uses the idiom "Well there's more than one way to skin a cat" is not necessarily a feline mutilator.

If I can't say "God damnit!", then Christians shouldn't be able to say "Holy cow!", since that phrase is, believe it or not, taken directly from the Hindu belief in viewing the cow as a symbol of the sacred.

Regardless, remember this: atheists call out their PARTNER'S name in bed!

They can say whatever they want because they don't believe in any deity. The reason Christians or Jews CANNOT is because God said it to be a sin to say his name in vain: the name of the Creator of the universe, as a curse word.
An Atheist however has no respect for God since he denies his existence, therefore doesn't care what he says about God.

Mmmdunno. Personally, I think of "taking the Lord's name in vain" as something more serious than mumbling to yourself, e.g. to get money as a bogey televangelist, swearing on it in court then perjuring to save your own ar$e. I can't imagine God seriously marking me down for a smite because I smashed my toe on the coffee table and shouted his name. I don't care if atheists, agnostics, or apricots use it, but it is amusing when you think about it. It's kind of disjointed... and do they get slightly embarrassed? "Oh, right, I don't believe in that." But how awkward would it be to catch yourself shouting, "Truth!" or "Logic!" and when your sister tells you she's preggers, "Proof!" will not be an appreciated response.

Sometimes I'll say Oh My God, it's just an expression, it doesn't mean I actually believe in God.

Oh my God is an expression saying it doesn't require you to believe in god...

Usually something like 'Wow'.

'Oh God' only comes out during really excellent sex.

My guy's self-confidence is sky-rocketing.
