I have a full grown chihuahua who is just 2 lbs!! She is not a tea-cup since there is no such thing. These poor pups are born tiny and occasionally this is due to a medical condition. Even without that, life is not easy for these little babes...they can definitely have health issues and a shorter life span. Anyone who breeds for these tiny "teacup, mini" or any other name is NOT thinking about the animals and is only breeding for CASH.

Regarding so-called teacup anythings, as other people have said, be very wary.
I work at a vet hospital, and today a woman brought in a "teacup" Maltese she had bought from an online ad for $1400.00. He had started having seizures. He was eight months old and weighed 4.8 pounds and had not grown at all since she got him at 8 weeks of age.
He isn't a teacup Maltese. He is a Maltese with a liver shunt, so he is stunted. The blood circulation to his liver is malformed so the metabolic byproducts in his bloodstream are not being filtered by the liver. It's a fatal condition. Surgery is possible but extremely expensive and often unsuccessful. The woman and her children are devastated. They love the little dog.
The woman said the breeder had a whole littler of these
"teacup" Maltese. They're making a fortune off these pitiful little dogs that are doomed to a painful early death.
Talk about avarice and irresponsibility.

If you look at the first couple of frames you will see the PUPPY'S mother. Looked like about a 5 pound Chihuahua to me (normal size)
Anything not within the standard (see below) is nothing more than a poorly bred Chihuahua. BTW, Chihuahuas ARE a TOY breed!!! Gee,,, surprise-surprise!!! (teacup is nothing more than a common adjective used to describe a TOY breed)
http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com/standard.htm
Here is you a like picture of a Beagle, cute little bugger isn't he.

,,,,,,,,, only,,,, this is what he looked like 6 months later

Puppy pics can be deceptive can't they
BTW Patrick is a 15" (large) not a 13" (small) Beagle

please if there is such a thing don't send pictures send a copy of teh akc or what ever other registry you have.
AKC only recognizes long or short hair.
Apoodle is registered as a Toy, miniture or stnadard.
The pictures look a lot like the ones my sister breeds they are either lon or sshort not any thing else.
I also would like to see there generation papers going back at least 5 genertations so I can check to see the sizes of the parents and litter mates.
they look like they are small but so are my sisters she has one that is only 2 pounds but the mom is a 7 pounder and the father is a 2 1/2 pounder. She just took more after dad but has the large behind her.
You are showing pictures of pups how about giving teh ages they are most not full grown YET so ya they are small.

that doesnt even look like an adult. It may "appear" healthy to you, but what health problems lay waiting? I know someone with a 3 pd crested that is only a few years old, and not expected to live much longer. She has allergies, seizures and other health issues.
"teacup" "toy" "mini" etc are all LABELS that byb's and millers use to insinuate that these are smaller Chihuahua's.
NO registry recognizes those sizes! They are still just a Chihuahua!
There is no such thing as a chiwawa either.. thats just a misspelling!

Please READ the official breed standard..Chihuahuas are a TOY breed..they do NOT come in "teacup", "toy" or "mini"..These terms are merely sales tactics used by irresponsible breeders in order to con people into buying something that is not bred to standard or is the runt of the litter..PLEASE DO NOT GET CONNED!!!! It is a darn shame that people are so irresponsible that they delibrately breed dogs to be smaller then is healthy and then slap "cute" names on them in order to sell them.
As a tech I can tell you we see a lot of these so called "teacup' dogs and many of them either have serious health issues form the start or develope them later.Breeding this small deforms internal organs, cause skelatal deformaties, brain damage and other major issues.

i think this question has already been answered. and what people are trying to tell you is the akc does not recognize the name "teacup" in any dog. there is toy, miniature, and standard in the different size of the same breeds. there are toy poodles, miniature poodles, and standard poodles. there is no such thing as a "teacup poodle", it just is not recognized. as for the chi, whatever way you spell it, they are in the toy group. there is no teacup group. sorry.

They just call them "teacup" and "toy" so they can add more money to the price. They purposley breed the smaller dogs to make these little puppies. My aunt has a "teacup" yorkie and he sure is cute! his name is rex lol.

Just because some breeder is selling undersized runts and slapping the name "teacup" on them so that people will pay ungodly amounts of money for them doesn't mean they're a "breed".
