Anyone who thinks invading Baghdad was because of oil is just showing their ignorance and willingness to simply regurgitate what others say due to a lack of their own research and education. Just look at where the US gets its oil and the oil prices today and even a paint chip eating, helmet wearing, short bus riding, drooling challenged person would see that the oil argument is just stupid.
Saddam's own generals thought he had WMD or was close to it. Do we wait until a US city is smoldering or do we wait until 1000s of people were killed chemically? Also Saddam was openly and daily going against the treaty he signed and because the UN was/is so corrupt would not be called on it. That is how even though there was only Oil for Food he managed to rebuild his entire military even though we obliterated it in 100 hours.
However, there is never only one reason why anything on such a scale is done. The personal vendetta idea is also ludicrous and idiotic and assumes that the government and the military are just a bunch of mindless automatons. That is ridicules, unless you are also that way because we come from the same place you do and not some other planet. We simply feel a certain want to serve and make things better than simply be out for ourselves.
Another competing reason was to further isolate a regime whose only major export is Terror, Iran. Not to prepare an attack, but to cut off what is called Lines of Communication (LOC) which does not mean phone lines, etc. but rather means by which it exports this terror. For decades Iran has been snug and comfortable with where they stood, between Iraq and Afghanistan. There was a balance of power that although did not assist them as much as they would like did provide an enormous amount of security from possible attack. That security is gone. This aids in getting Iran to open talks with the WORLD and to play nice. This may or may not work.
It might be moot since the same population that overthrew the Shah of Iran, the disenfranchised youth of college age, is now beginning to call and protest for freedom from the theocratical Islamic rule. Truely ironic and a bit karma driven if you ask me.
One last point; if England had invaded Germany around 1932 and taken out Hitler and the Nazi party would history have known that they saved over 100 million lives or would history call them evil for their deeds? I think the answer is clear.
For all you others, I encourage you to go there as I have on more than one occasion and go out and talk to the people in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. Talk with the Kurds and the Shiites who were oppressed, tortured, murdered for the past several decades... have women walk up to you with pictures of brothers, husbands, sons, etc. and ask you where they are that they were dragged out of their homes after they spoke out against the government and tell them.... sucks to be you... we should have never come here.... You can do this not only by joining the military but working for the hundreds of companies world wide that are there aiding in reconstruction instead of sitting in their Starbucks or student unions complaining about things but doing absolutely nothing constructive.
Very few living here in the U.S. can realize what anyone of those people went through or are going through. So before you just spit out rhetoric and the party line do some of your own research. Look at sources that don't agree with your view as much as ones that do because chances are the truth is somewhere in between.
In a free society people are just as free to kill as they are to live happy. This is a new way of living for them and will take time to get used to.

The hijackers have been customarily born in Saudi Arabia, yet they have been additionally customarily knowledgeable and recruited in Western Europe. We did no longer attack Saudi Arabia or Western Europe as a results of fact we had no information that there have been terrorist education centers or management in those worldwide places (a minimum of to no longer the quantity that finished-fledged protection rigidity invasion may be effective) - the information on that pointed to Afganhistan. much less credible information pointed to Iraq. ---upload--- there have been WMD's (chemical scud missiles) used against the Kurds previous to the 1st gulf conflict. Likewise, there have been labs or maybe missiles and chemical drums chanced on after the start of the 2nd invasion. the subject? They have been probable left over from the 1st bypass around. WMD supporters will fortuitously component out how Clinton additionally attacked Iraq at one component, ignoring as they gain this the certainty that Clinton attacked as a results of fact Saddam develop into refusing weapons inspectors, no longer as a results of fact there develop into direct information of a weapons application (or extra to the component, honestly weapons). what's likewise exceeded over is the certainty that for the period of spite of the certainty that there is a few vulnerable information for a extra moderen WMD application, the unique reason given for the invasion develop right into a meant purchase of nuclear weapons materials - those have been in no way chanced on, and different information shows that the source of the record develop into an opportunistic, capability-hungry liar.

The Bush family had a personal vendetta against Hussein since the days of Desert Storm when George H.W. Bush was criticized, ridiculed and humiliated for 'not finishing the job' and ousting Hussein at that time.
Cheney and his friends wanted all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands.
The giant military-industrial complex needed a new 'war' to boost the profits of government contractors such as McDonnell-Douglass, Lockheed-Martin and Sikorsky, as well as those two 'newcomers' to the long list of government contractors: the Carlyle Group and Halliburton, both of whom have direct ties to the Bush-Cheney White House.
We unconstitutionally, illegally, unjustifiable and immorally invaded Iraq for the sake of OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Nothing more. -RKO- 06/15/07

Greed, and the fact Bush knew he didn't win the peoples vote
and also to put us Americans in such a financial debt that we might not ever recover. Oh and of course Dick Cheney-Haliburton, even though he is not CEO at this moment he will
be as soon as he leaves the Vice Presidential office. Like one comment the Middle East has been at war since the very
begining of time, and more than likely until the end of time.

If you think that the Iraq regime was either secular or stable you are delusional. There has been an ongoing war inside Iraq between the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds for a very long time. Our invasion did not start that.

People will tell you its to monitor them and make sure they become a democracy like the US. But I think thats BS. I believe we are planning an attack against IRAN, and if we station troops out in IRAQ, once we unleash the attach on IRAN, we can fight the battle on their soil, not the US's. Why else would BUSH keep sending troops to IRAQ?
(Sorry to anyone who has lost someone in IRAQ for fighting for our country. I lost someone, and I know its hard).

In case you were sleeping for a few years, almost all the planet knows that Bush went in Iraq to control its petrol...
When the US invasion began, the first priority targets to secured were the oil rigs in Iraq, but they never even consider to protect its museums, so they were plundered and remains almost nothing... Even if the US says that they have recover some... This is just another bold lie like the rest...

USA invaded Iraq for many many reasons and benefits.
1. To make use of the rich petrol land
2. To maintain it's excellent relation with Kuwait which still has the iraqi invasion nightmare
3. To control over Irani boundaries
4. To backup Israel from the north as by dominating forces in iraq, syria can't harm Israel
5. To make some noise to make the american ppl busy while he is playing with the government
6. To complete the mission of his father
7. To refresh the cinema industry by adding the war in iraq dimension in their production lines
8. To make the muslims divided into sunni and sheia
9. To train the marines in fighting in deserts and between houses in case he will need to fight Iran

Lots of terrorists attacks come from Middle East. So the U.S. wants a staging area to stop them.
