Next time you're in Fort Plain, NY (easy to do, since it's on the Thruway, 2 miles west of the Canajoharie exit, on Route 5S), look up the Reformed Church, on Canal Street. Notice its lack of a steeple. The whole thing was blown off by a hurricane, in the 1940s.

Churches aren't exempt from natural events. Just ask the people in the Kansas town that had theirs levelled (along with the whole rest of the town), a few weeks ago.

LOL. Maybe the steeple IS the lightning rod so the preacher isn't struck. LOL.

that could be a development regulation. whether the church had cofidence, would not recommend that is parishoners do. That lightning conductor is a lot extra in all hazard to be hit than the atheists little domicile down the line. So that is protecting the community.

Another example of the faith........lightning rods have been proven not to work. Insurance companies would give discounts if they did.

Hi Tylerdurden,

That's my favorite quote too. You might want to credit the author, (Doug McLeod), as I did when I asked the identical question 5 days ago.

I don't get the point of putting a big pointy thing on top of a church anyway. How's God supposed to get in?

You know being a believer in God does not mean we have to be careless- when Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, He prayed yes, and trusted God to save him and the builders from their enemies, who were attacking them- but he also had people stationed at the wall for protection. Christianity is not leaving our mind at the door.
With this statement I made- I do not want anyone to say God helps those who helps themselves- prayer gets us in touch with God and He tells us what to do.

Not at all. It is called "being prepared", just as Noah was. He built the boat. The so- called "intellectuals", who didn't build a boat, perished. I'm sure this doesn't tell you anything because you are too enlightened. Have a nice day and don't get struck by lightning.

The idea is to channel the Lightning down to Hell.

Or a request for a little extra power - electricity is getting so expensive!
