Bless your heart Esther! Isn't it amazing how God works through you, to touch family and friends? The hand of God was upon your father. Oh Mighty God, You are worthy!

I am young and living in this generation, but I can't seem to get enough of classic traditional songs of the past.
If it is classic, I love it!!!
Many of the modern songs are good, but I believe that the older ones had less repetition and more substance.
I love songs that have a sermon-like build-up, rather than an incantation-like build-up. If it is nothing more than just a jolly good time-celebration-clap your hands, move your body and sweat type of song, it does not appeal very much to me. One illustration from the Bible that I can give is the time when Moses came down from the mountain of God with the Ten Commandments. The people were singing and praising God. Music was in the air. But Moses and Joshua thought that it was the music of war. They couldn't tell what was happening. The people however, sincerely thought they were praising the Lord ( Exodus 32 ). I love music that takes me to the very presence of God like Moses when he came down from the mountain with a shiny countenance.
I like to listen to Power in the Blood, My hope is built on nothing less, What a fellowship what a joy devine, Burdens are lifted at Calvary, Faith of our Fathers, What a Friend we have in Jesus, Take Time to be Holy, etc...
I love several modern songs also: Lord Prepare Me to Be A Sanctuary, Shout to the Lord, I Have Decided to Follow Jesus, No Turning Back etc...
We all have different taste, these are some of the songs I love.
May God bless and keep you Sister G. Great question!!!

Celebrate the Child who is the Light
Now the darkness is over
No more wandering in the night
Celebrate the Child who is the Light
You know this is no fable
Godhead and manhood became one
We see He's more than able
And so we live to God the Son
Chorus

The song that makes me smile every time I hear it is, "blessed be the name of the Lord". The day after my Dad passed away (God saved him four days before he died), it was such a miracle, and I was in church more grateful than I've ever been in my existence. That was the first song our praise and worship team sung. It has that special meaning for me every time I hear it.
Blessed be your name
on the road marked with suffering
though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be your name...
you give and take away
you give and take away
my heart will choose to say,
Lord blessed be your name.

There was this song that I learned at Look Up Lodge in Traveler's Rest, South Carolina last summer. I can't remember the name but the lyrics are:
Out of the dark I cry to You my God,
And my soul will trust Your Holy Word.
My cry for mercy, Lord I pray You hear,
And through forgiveness teach my soul to fear
Because if You, kept a record of our sins,
Tell me who, before You Lord could surely stand?
I am wild, You are free.
I am tired but You are strength.
I am blind, You are sight
I am dead but You are life.
You are holy, You are worthy, You are righteous, You seek justice.
It's either this song or amazing love or who am I by casting crowns.

I enjoy singing and hearing "It is Well, With my Soul." Because the words were written in collaboration with another who composed the music. The words were written after the author's four daughters were killed in a ship to ship collision at sea. His wife sent him a telegram stating that she was OK, and upon hearing that, despite all his agony he set down and wrote one of the most beautiful songs in the Gospel world. This song lifts me up to Him and He to me, and reminds me that, yes, we have our down days, but oh, how glorious, He is, and how wise, and loving.

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how He could love me
A sinner condemned unclean
How marvellous
How wonderful
And my song shall ever be
How marvellous
How wonderful
Is my Saviour's love for me
He took my sins and my sorrows
He made them His very own
He bore the burden to Calvary
And suffered and died alone
