The USA is currently engaging in a War on Terror.

Now, terrorism is defined as "the calculated use of violence (or the THREAT of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear." (Princeton University Dictionary)

So, by this very definition, the Christian teaching that non-belief in God leads directly to Hell is a "calculated threat of (eternal) violence" in order to attain a "religious goal" - conversion of ALL PEOPLE to the Christian way, via "instilling fear."

So, since Christianity is obviously a terroristic organization, as defined by the above definition (which, I understand might upset some Christians - but please do not hold that against me - Im only pointing out the obvious...) WHEN IS THE US GOVT GOING TO START FIGHTING CHRISTIANITY??? This is homegrown terrorism that needs to stop!

Agreed Brendon - but have you seen the Creation Museum? these people are attacking the very foundations of science in the name of Jesus. We are a leading industrial nation that has the lowest education rates in the world. Our beleifs rank us 95th in the world, just above Afganistan!!

maguyver - I can understand your thoughts, but there is a problem here: this isnt about the end results of salvation - its about terrorism being illegal and being fought against. Perhaps youve heard this saying before: "One man's terrorist is another mans freedom fighter." So, because a few are saved by fear of eternal torment, this makes terrorism OK? That is bad logic - because Muslims only threaten to kill you if you refuse to believe their truth as well. If they are not right to do this, what gives Christians the same right to use threats of fear and eternal torture to gt others to their views?

Ya know, this was meant as a non-sequitor, but I am fast realizing that Ive made a valid point here...

This is possibly the best non-sequitur I've seen yet. Classic stuff.

The government is full of a bunch of people claiming to be Christians .Because the people will think they are not liars if they claim to be Christians . It gets lots of votes . The government is run by a bunch of rich people trying to get richer . I won't make the statement that there are no Christians in politics , but it would certainly be difficult to find one . The men who actually care about the world and would change it , are assassinated . Why ?Because it's counter productive to big business and that's who runs the world . All countries of the world are governed by the few rich men of the world . Everything else is a smokescreen . Wars , racism , terrorism ,are all used to keep the poor suppressed and distracted while their pockets are being emptied and their labor is being exploited . What better way to keep the poor from rising up against the rich .

I agree to an extent. I don't think any country should have the right to march in and take control of any another nation and dictate their rules of existence, this is clearly a form of good old fashioned invasion. It would be foolish to think the country being invaded wouldn't retaliate. Having said that I think it is important not to confuse the people of a nation with the government carrying out the actions. A lot of the time the civilians of a particular country don't support or agree with what their government is doing. It is unfair to label those people under all one banner. For example, I don't agree with what my country did to the indigenous people 50 or so years ago, and if it was up to me it would have never happened, but I was not in a position to influence this. Yet, I am stilled asked to apologise for the mistakes of my ancestors on national sorry day. Is this fair since I had no role in the governments actions? I think not.

Right here you are stretching it and you know it.

And also that is the whole point of Christianity - that God loves us so much that he sent his son Jesus to die so that nobody would ever have to go to hell.

Christianity is about God's grace and mercy towards us, not about judgment. If you don't see that then you don't understand the new covenant.

There is a clear and stated difference between fanatics blowing themselves up in crowded markets and driving vehicle-borne bombs--or airplanes--into buildings full of people, and a bunch of narrow-minded nitpickers repeatedly asking why you "won't accept Jesus".

This is one of those things I take seriously, as a combat vet.

"The American Govt is in a War on Terror." I get your point but I'm not sure about the word "on". Maybe the word should be "of".
