Apparently everything is a sin. I don't see how buying a dog could possibly be a sin, especially if you're gonna give it a good home, but I'm sure there is some religious nut who probably thinks it is. After all, at least 20% of all zealots are crazy old cat ladies, and they're totally anti-dog.

In a Muslim world yeah it is (in the Arabic regions)! Dogz are awesome, but it is unusual why it's a sin? They don't know anything about dogs. Let me ask you..."Is it a sin to eat dogs, that some say are actually good?" Especially to those who say keeping dogs is a sin.

what do you plan on doing to the dog? That might be a sin, but buying one is a great idea. Certain breeds have certain charicterstics so get one that goes with your attitude. Labs are great family dogs, Dobbermans are great family watch dogs, and yorkshire terriors are annoying.

Anything can be construed as being a sin to SOMEONE. Why obsess over such simple things that ultimately make no difference to anyone?

My suggestion, figure out if it is an ethical (impartial, reasoned, decision of right and wrong) that will effect someone other than yourself; if it is, then make the ethical choice, if not, why worry??

HUH??? That might be the silliest thing I ever heard. Buying a dog is a GREAT thing. It's a lot of work, but a dog is the finest companion and friend you will EVER have. A sin??? Man, that's really funny. What idiot told you that?

I bought my dog(he's a mix) from an animal shelter for $75. But it is NOT by far "a sin". It is adoption no matter what way you look at it!

Not if you are a Christian it isn't a sin. I don't know about Muslims though. I think that they have some sort of rule about not having a dog or about dogs being unclean or something like that.

The old folks always told me that it is wrong to buy or sell a dog. If one appears at your door, it is good luck if you take it in and take care of it. Pops

As I understand it, Muslims believe that dogs are unclean animals, so for them, yes, it probably would be considered a sin.

I can't think of another religion which would prohibit buying a dog.

The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducted daily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle." Abu Huraira (in another narration) said from the Prophet, "unless it is used for guarding sheep or farms, or for hunting." Narrated Abu Hazim from Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "A dog for guarding cattle or for hunting."
