When we lived in the Philippines in the 60s, our maids had no idea what teflon was and destroyed my mom's frying pans with scouring pans. It was a long time ago and we were far from home, we understood. But 40 years later, I still can't seem to get my brazilian wife to understand you don't use scouring pads on teflon. Is teflon a national secret???

Teflon is dangerous. Says so right on the package.
Dont take my word for it, go to the website.

You can use plastic scouring pads on them though.

teflon is a cancer inducing convenience!

actually most countries are poor and generally use aluminum for pots -- or better yet "pot metal" which is a very inexpensive amalgamation kind of like cast iron. teflon is for wealthy fat countries.
