Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).

The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."

Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.

Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person, anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

With love in Christ.

PaulCyp said it EXACTLY right! I don't know where you get the idea that it was Pope John Paul II that forbade premarital sex. God forbade it. The Church, and every pope throughout history, has enforced it. The duty of the papacy is to ensure proper teaching of matters concerning faith and morals and to be a safeguard against heresey.

But, to answer your question concerning masturbation. Yes, it is forbidden by the Catholic Church and cannot be changed at any time, because this is set doctrine and is in concordance with Tradition and Scripture. I would really suggest studying the way the Catholic Church operates and realize that each Pope doesn't change doctrine, that's not how it works.

No, it is not accepted. It is considered "a gravely disordered act". Morality doesn't change from one Pope to another. Premarital sex wasn't "forbidden by Pope John Paul". It was forbidden by God, and therefore every Pope from Simon Peter to the present Pope, and from now until the end of time will teach the same thing. You cannot change truth - except to untruth.

Fornication has never been acceptable to the Catholic Church.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:

2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.

2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action." "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."

Many will answer this with the aid of lack of expertise particularly of checking the Catechism of the Catholic church it is on the market on line. The Catholic church states that masturbation is to be understood as intrinsically opposite to chastity with the aid of fact the guy violates the chastity to which his Baptism pledged him. intercourse is the present of God presented to females and men human beings interior the lawful state of marriage for the professional-introduction of infants and is to be enjoyed for that purpose. birth control is recognized as morally incorrect and sinful because it prevents the transmission of existence and is an act of self love and self delight to the detriment of existence itself. God bless.

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects' moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability."

According to Catholic teaching, masturbation is a mortal sin and does require going to confession.

Also, in the document, "Persona Humana," the Vatican declared masturbation to be a "grave moral disorder."

Both (pre-marital sex AND masturbation) have been frowned upon by the Church for a lot longer than JPII and Benedict XVI have been around.

Not officially, but it is accepted that it will be common, particularly with the young. It is discouraged in practical terms; but yes, officially condemned. Not a mortal sin though.

I think that is a personal choice. If none talked about what they did behind closed doors, then there would be no need to have a "man's" opinion on this!

The Bible teaches against pre-marital sex! I have not found scriptures which teach against masturbation!
