sorry I don't have a source for this so you'll have to trust my memory! I remember a university doing a study on this with a group of ladies - one lot did the tummy-toner thing with the electric toner for half an hour a day and the other lot did a few minutes of sit-ups. They used a special device to measure the tummy tone and, basically, the sit-up group won hands down... I remember it particularly because I'd always wanted an electric muscle toner and I was SO disappointed, I was hoping they'd find it worked so that I could run off to Boots and get one...

you can use them anywhere that you have skeletal muscle but they won't do much if anything. with out exercising a muscle through the entire range of motion not much will occur. they are best used on areas where the muscles have cramped up deep, etc. for hypertrophy and strength? not on your life will you see any noticeable gains. even isometrics is superior to electrical stimulation

if you use them correctly (with KY jelly) to allow the current to penetrate the skin they work pretty good....but its only as good as flexing your muscles..... it doesn't build strength.. if you do a 10 minute session on your stomach it feels like you did 100 sit ups!!!!

I had one, and it didn't seem to work at all. It mostly just shocked my skin.
