I can understand yor sentiments sherry and i apologize as a muslim on anyone's behalf who attacked you. Here is something i wrote somewhere elso. You can go through this, thanks.
For a muslim actions matter more then words. The bigger question is how can help out Humanity as taught by Prophet Muhammed(PBUH) and the Quran repeaydly asked for 3 things in a Muslim.
1) Righteous actions
2) Constant Prayer
3) Regular Charity.
Then agian Prophet Muhammed had an amazing conduct. We should match his conduct and should solely concentrate on that.
Not only that we have to draw a line between religion and politics. Our self correction comes foremost, only then we are defending something. If we do not self correct, what are we defending?
That was the core message of Jihad.
At the same time, Pride is non-religious. A muslim should be humble and a servant to humanity cuz even Allah says in Quran "The nearest to you are Christians in love cuz there are some among them who have no EGO". So even Allah hinted not to have EGO!

Your asking a difficult question. It's one that you have to find the final answer too, yourself. Also, you have to remember that true muslims don't preach hate and killing. Only the radical groups do.
I always wondered why there is so much fighting over religion. I'm a christian, personally, I don't care if someone wants to worship a turnip. Just don't tell me I have to also. Don't tell me you will kill me if I don't worship YOUR "god".
Perhaps, Allah, Budda, God etc are all names for the same thing. One thing is for certain, we will all get the answer in the end.
Good luck finding your answer.

Islam was the simple message of all the Prophets. A call to worship the One God, Creator of the Heavens and Earth and all that exists.

Gosh, I'm surprised people were offended by this question! I can't imagine why. It's not like you attacked them first or anything.
Geez, some people, eh?

I do not believe that Islam is the way to God. They do a lot of good things but Jesus is the way.
