Energy is derived when carbohydrate is converted into glycogen in the liver, this precess takes approximately 8 hours, it is important therefore to eat a carbohydrate meal in the evening before strenuous exercise is taken, this is called carbohydrate loading. It is a bad idea to take whey protein as you need cofactors in the appropriate ratios in order to liberate energy from protein. Protein is used to repair body tissues but may be converted into energy by an inefficient process which takes energy and leaves residues in the body, a high protien diet therefore can make you more lethargic in the long run.
To improve your excercise tolerance you need a balanced diet including sufficient B complex vitamins zinc and iron obtained from red meats and co factor Q10 obtained from sardines and fruit and vegetables.
A good book on nutrition is The Optimum nutrition bible by Patrick Holford.
If you want to build muscle then a good breakfast would be 2 scrambled eggs, but you must be sure to include enough B complex vitamins and zinc in your other meals as your body cannot breakdown protein into amino acids and then rebuild these amino acids into muscle protein without the neccessary co factors.
Supplements are expensive and could do your health more harm than good without expert supervision.
Good luck with your new job and take a few bananas with you to replenish your carbohydrate stores through the day (or even some Kendal mint cake for an instant energy boost).

if its energy you want, then its carbohydrate that you need , have a breakfast of oats with mixed nuts and fruit in it , this will release energy steadily throughout the morning until its time to eat again , if this isn't enough energy you can get carbs in supplement form , ultra fine Scottish oats are gr8 and they mix well into a shake , as your doing a physical job whey protein might not be a bad idea ,you could mix this into the shake along with the carbs, and the protein will help your body build muscle and recover faster , have a look on www.myprotein.co.uk there probably the best place to get your supplements from ( and cheap ) , hope this helps

Whey protein for energy? Whey protein is made to help build/repair muscle during strenuous exercise or activities. It is a good diet supplement though. Other things you may try are multivitamins, a b12 supplement (injected is best but, a pill will do) or simply have a glass of water and an apple with breakfast. sounds like a corny commercial but, it works.

I don't know about teaspoons of whey protein. I know the best in my opinion is called Designer protein and it has a scoop cup in it to use. I personally use protein powder called isopure by Natures Best. I use two scoops in 16 oz of skim milk. check out this website http://www.indoorclimbing.com/protein_requirement.html . It will tell you how much protein you should be consuming based on your ideal body weight.
