Dump him and wait a couple of weeks, if they get together or she becomes more distant you did the right thing, if not you can get back so long as you can put up with this continuing!

First, why are you dating a friend's ex? That's a big friendship no-no.
Second, I would wonder why he was fascinated with his ex...and would probably dump him.
