Hey ya-so I've finished up a 3 day physical/drug screening/DOJ background/fingerprint/TB test etc, and I'm headed back home which is about 300 miles away later today. It looks like I have the job, but I have some expenses that I wanted to ask the new employer about covering (gas, motel, food only). Anyone know when a good time to ask would be and how to approach the HR manager about it? Thanx.

Wayfaroutthere: Interviews are over actually-I have a contingent offer right now, but I had to finish the physical/background stuff etc, and I don't yet live over here.

I would wait until I got the offer and then get HR to tell me how to submit an Employee Reimbursement Request. They typically pay for that stuff so you need to know what they reimburse per mile as opposed to gas and the rest. Keep the bills and receipts because you will have to submit them with the request. If you don't get the offer just call HR and tell them you are submitting an invoice for your expenses for the interview and ask them what they allow for mileage per mile and then submit.

There should be no problem.

Was this a job interview, or your first assignment? If the company sent you three hundred miles away, save your reciepts--they'll reimburse you. But if you went out to where your new job will be because you are planning to move there, you can ask about reimbursement, but I think that would be your expense.

typically you'd be reimbursed interior 5 businees days. even if, it isn't a call for to reimburse commute expenses, you want to inquire as to the corporation's coverage previous to buying the price ticket.

If they offer it to you then it is part of policy, and it will be a predetermined amount. You are not yet an employee so it might not be available, if I where you would not even bring it up
