The best thing about black slacks is that any color goes with them!! Unless he is wearing a tie, white and dark blue should be out. Without a tie, lavender, pink, light blue, green, yellow, light orange - anything really ...

Well everything will work with the Black Slacks, but here is a list of what looks good with it:
1) French Blue
2) Burgundy
3) A deeper Gold color
And if he is wearing a tie make sure it has a little of the shirt color in it to make it match.

Dark royal blue looks best with black pants, and a black suit for that matter.
Why isnt he wearing a tie? Unless you know that the wedding is really informal, he should wear a tie.

Bright jewel tones, like ruby red, emerald green, topaz yellow, sapphire blue, amethyst purple.
OR
Pastels such as pink, mint, banana yellow, baby blue, or lavender.
Add a tie with the color of the shirt and some black in it.
I would avoid black, gray, or white shirt.[ to avoid confusion with the wedding party.]

Any color goes well with black pants except black. It really depends on the season. If it's something he'll wear right now, then it needs to be a light, summery color....like a light blue.

I would say a crisp blue! Try going to to Dillards and looking at the dress shirts section under men! It will show you shirts and the models have on black pants!
http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=301&langId=-1&storeId=301&productId=501234691&N=1027088&searchUrl=%2Fendeca%2FEndecaStartServlet%3FN%3D1027088&R=MDS009
Here's an idea of what I'm talking about!
or
something with a simple pinstripe would look really nice also! The pinstripe dresses it up a bit without the necessity of a tie!

If he is light coloring then something light color. Now if he has a dark complection then go for darker colors. I would stay away from white with black pants (too much like the staff)
Enjoy and have fun

The beauty of black is that it compliments EVERY other color.
Just be careful putting a black shirt with it, as there are different hues of black (blue-based, red-based, etc).

Any colour dress shirt, EXCEPT black. For a wedding, a tie and jacket would be appropriate.
