Well, the truth is that all southern baptists don't believe the same things. The diversity within the denomination has caused quite a lot of debate in recent history, even resulting in a break within Southern Baptist Convention. Below is a link to the two different conventions. I am partial to the CBF (the second link), myself, but I link to the other as well. It is only fair that you can see for yourself what both sides are like!

FYI: In reference to something someone said above, I have rarely been to a baptist church that still used the King James Bible. Some do, but many use the New International Version and some other versions instead.

Get a copy of a King James Bible since this is what they use the most. Also, check out websites about the Southern baptist Convention and the meetings they hold. Just type in Southern baptist Convention into a search engine and it will lead you to a page that will explain their philosophy and their beliefs. Good luck once again.

It doesn't matter what you read about what they believe, every congregation believes something different. The baptist cult is just a religion that enables its members to just ad-lib their religion so that they are comfortable, take for example the Baptists in Westboro.
It is clear that as God is not the author of confusion, and that every Baptist can believe whatever they like, that the whole Baptist cult is of the devil and should be avoided.

they believe in baptism by water is a symbol of faith - its ceremonial, not affective. so it is an outward sign of one's faith, but the act doesnt actually cause salvation.
plus they are very eglitarian and democratic in their governance. the public/congregation are the ones with the 'power' not the leaders, etc.

baptists grew out of being the social outcast who had no power in society and they were radicals against the society of the time, where the church was baptizing every baby and everyone was calling themselves "christians" but they didnt have the faith just the title, so they banded together saying you could only really call yourself a Christian if you belived. They got martyered for this bigtime back then!
