Camping in Sacramento Area?

Question

I'm looking for a good place to take my daughter (3 years old) camping. I want to keep it around $15-$20 a night, would like it to be a pretty easy drive (close to a highway if possible) so we can drive home at night if needed. I don't care about having plubming but near a peacful body of watter with shore might be fun. If you missed it in the title I'm in the Sacramento area and want to keep the drive to no much more then 1 hour.

You have to go to the Sacramento Delta. Go down I-5 to highway 12 and hang a right. There are tons of places to go.

There is a KOA campground right downtown, just off Capitol Avenue, behind a levy, next to the Sacramento River.

The best place is at Folsom Lake. You can get great camp sites if you go over on Wednesday or Thursday. The summer will be more difficult, but it's right in town, so less than a half hour to drive over there and reserve (or online, of course).

There is also a KOA on the highway to Placerville, but it's not too much fun for kids, more of a rest area for us grandparents.

Located just 25 miles southeast of downtown Sacramento, the Rancho Seco Recreational Area is owned and operated by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. The park is open year-around. See the brochure.

I stay at the Penensula campground which is on the far North side of the lake, and takes about 45 minutes to drive. It is worth the time, because it more removed from the city life.

White Cloud campground in Tahoe Nat'l Forest 10 miles east of Nevada City on State Route 20.
In a nice pine/cedar forest. Scotts Flat Reservoir with water recreation is nearby.
Cost is $15 or less.
