the irs contacted my work and said they were taking my paycheck, i did a sidejob and got cut a check, if i go to cash it at my bank can they keep it? its for 1000 dollars so i dont want to risk it, my bank never sent me anything about the irs

That's what they do best. They will keep on doing it until they get their money and/or you get things straight with them to pay it off.
Also, you could get people to pay you in cash.

Sounds like you owe money to the IRS and haven't been paying on it, so they've garnished your wages. If you got a check, you can cash it. But realize for this year's return that you have to claim income from a sidejob as well as your regular job, or you'll be in even more trouble.

First of all, you should contact the IRS and find out why they are going to garnish your wages. It may still be possible to work out a payment arrangement with them. If not, I suggest cashing any future checks at a check cashing establishment.

They will probobly take future checks but not the ones you already have.
