most people don't know in advance the exact time they're actually going to die, and many people aren't in a condition in which they can comprehend that they're about to die.

i understand the sin all you want, god will forgive if you repent, but i'm sure a huge majority of christians didn't get their last repent in before death. to cover your butt, you'd have to be repenting immediately after each sin, and even that would imply that you knew what you were doing was wrong and you did it anyway, knowing that you could just repent it all away after, which isn't very christian now, is it.

what's the point? the chances of anyone getting to heaven (if it existed) are so remotely slim and yet you spend your whole life living in fear of not getting there.

atheists don't have these huge issues weighing them down.

p.s. i'm not atheist - or christian

The primary premise is faulty. We're not ALL sinners.

Christians are born in sin and must be cleansed, kind of a wash, rinse, repeat process.

Most pagans are not born in sin. I, for instance, am not a sinner. True, I've sinned. But my inherent nature is one of sinlessness, not sin. It makes a big difference in how we see the world. Christians are naturally evil and have to spend most of their time fighting it. Pagans, at least those of my tribe, are naturally good, so sinning is an atrocity and something that we generally don't do.

First of all, HEAVEN DOES EXISTS. NEVER say it doesn't. Chances are, if you do repent your sins and believe in God and his word, then you will go to Heaven.
I'm definitely NOT the perfect Christian, no one is. I sin soooooo much. Everybody does. But I, unlike some people, ask for forgiveness and it is blessed upon me.
These issues aren't weighing us down, they're bringing us up! They help us glorify God on the highest.
You don't have to repent before you die, because it could happen at any moment. Just repent as much as you possibly can. Even if it means once a week. Repent at church, before you go to bed, ect. Whatever, but just repent. Jesus didn't die for us to sin whenever we wanted to and get away with it!

Don't live your whole life in fear. Live it in happiness that your alive and you WILL go to heaven.

Whatever you are, Catholic, Lutheran whatever, it was all based on Christianity. Key is Christ. Glorify him!

And guess what? I'm only a teenager. I still have a ways to go, but do you?

If you truly believe in your heart of hearts that Jesus died for you and you accept him, you Can be saved at anytime. True, Death is untimely and we know not the hour of our death, but, once you repent it is good forever. Once saved always saved. No such thing as having to be saved each time you sin. If that were case, then how could we believe Jesus and God are strong enough to honor Their promise? I was saved March 10. 1974 and Have been ever since. Have I sinned since then? every day unfortunately. But I know no matter how much I sin in the future, I am going to Heaven. The key is, when you're actually saved, then sin becomes an abomination to you so you put extra effort into making sure you try and not sin. Sorry for the long answer, I could make it longer lol, but thanks for the question. Hope this helps. have a great day!

In some respects you're right but I assume the underlying question is not whether to bother being Christian but more so whether to believe in the divinity associated with repentance.

The point of being a Christian (if I remeber correctly) is to accept God. That is usually the aim of most religions whether it be Judism, Islamd, or Buddhism. There is a central God to accept and there is a believe system to follow ( it just so happens that many of the belief systems coincide with regional ethics.) But I digress.

Were you to ask yourself why you should be a Christian, simply because you sin, would be analogous to asking yourself why you should be a parent because you are (at some times) immature, or why you should be a wife because you are (at some times) unfaithful.

People make mistakes. That's what life is about.

If you look at the Bible you will see that almost all of the characters have sinned one way or another, but because they repented (that is they asked forgiveness from God, themsleves, and/or their brethren- a term that in this context includes women) they lived relatively happier lives.

The greatest part of repenting is the forgiveness.
And the greatest part of sinning (despite the pleasant rush) is the repention for from that we open our eyes to the world in its greatness and in its flaws.

Remeber it is human to ere but divine to forgive.
When we sin (whether you are Christian or not) you open the doors to the world, because we only walk straight after we have stumbled.

You raise an interesting question. I personally do not believe that the Scriptures teach you can become "unsaved." Once a person has placed their faith in Christ (repented, however you might term it), they are forever saved. It does not matter if a person later sins no matter how grievous this might be. "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 8:1). Anyone who has become saved is said to be "in Christ." We cannot be removed from being in Christ. Once we are his, we are always his. Our sin can no longer separate us from the love of God, Jesus took care of all of our guilt and shame at the cross. There is no reason to live life trying to work off of our guilt. Becoming overly repentant and confessing after every little sin will not result in any more freedom. A person who trusts in Christ has been freed from all guilt and shame (even though we still will experience shame and guilt from ourselves and from other people). The point of becoming a Christian is not to be perfect. In fact, it is the exact opposite. We become Christians because we see we are not perfect. We are Christians precisely because we are sinners. As far as I know, God is the only person who is able to love me in my "badness" and failure (Rom. 8:28ff). Everyone else hates to see the ugly part of me (including my wife).

As a result, I don't see that there is a weight holding me down either. In fact, I think following Jesus offers freedom not bondage. I am sorry, but I think whoever presented this aspect of Christianity to you is not close to the mark.

the basic problem with what you are saying is you are weighing righteousness on a one sin = one repentence- this suggests that we earn our salvation and would never work because we would be certain to miss a sin or two here and there. It is not whomever dies with the cleanest slate gets to heaven.
We can only be righteous through Jesus who is our righteousness. He has already taken the penalty for our sins so if we have faith in Him we can have faith in that sacrifice and what it accomplished. This does not mean that we just go about sinning because God forvies it all- that would be making a mockery of what Jesus did on the cross. We accept his sacrifice and follow him in obedience- we obey not for salvation but because of salvation. He loves us so much that He provided a way for us to be redeemed, because we are redeemed we obey.
THis is not to say we will not fall and fail, and yes, when that happens we need to recognize it and repent so that we can continue living a blessed life that blesses others. No one is going to go to hell because they dies after saying a curse word and did not repent- it is living a life that desires to follow the Lord, a heart that mourns over sin and rejoices over the redemption we have in Jesus, a heart with an attitude of repentence that does not rejoice in or desire deliberate sin.

You're way over simplyfing the whole thing. First of all, if you're "sinning all you want" and don't have a sincere intent of reforming, then your sins are not really forgiven. So that doesn't really work. Also, people doing that will eventually stop asking for forgiveness because confession will cease to have meaning for them. That being said, just because you didn't repent after you commited your last sin does not mean, by any stretch, that you're going to hell. A human being is defined by every moment of his life, not by the last thing he did. People that go the hell, go to hell, because they have the opportunity to know God, and then completely reject him. So it's like going to jail, in the sense that you really have to try to get there. It's not easy. We still have to pay for our sins, either on earth, or in purgatory, but eventually I think most people will get to heaven.

a non-christian will never understand scriptures (impossible until they are ready to repent to Jesus).
Jesus forgives ALL sin (not one at a time).

God knows we are going to sin, that's why we can repent. We repent and don't live out the rest of our lives in guilt.

Ah! Excellent question. One asked by people around the world. Yes we are all sinners. Since the disobedience agaist God in the garden of eden man has lost his way to paradise or heaven. If you would read Genesis cpt 3 you will see God had to provide for them animal skins. Jesus came with the availibilty to secure this with his life IF we will fully give our life to Him we will have eternal life. live for the next world and get this one in the deal, live strickly for this world and you will end up losing them both.
