Normally, I am a happy, upbeat person. However, During the last 6 months or so, I have been experiencing alot of the symptoms of depression. But, is it still depression if I know exactly why I am depressed, but circumstances prevent me from getting out of the situation that is causing me heartache? I know that if I got out of my current situation that I would be quite happy. So I am depressed, or have I hit a long term rough spot?

you have what is known as situational depression. The problem with that is if you continue in the situation for long, the mind gets trapped in a spiral pattern and the situational depression can turn into clinical depression and you are stuck with treating it for the remainder of your life.
My advice, do whatever you have to, but get out of that situation.

Dr. Wayne Dyer is a awesome author about spiritiual soultions to your inner self. The "self help" section always sucks to go into, when some people just need to adjust to current life situations. Old habits die hard, I know very well.. and if you know you will be better off it's time to let go of the old and be excited about the new! Go with the flow, and watch the magic of life unfold, dont try to paddle up the stream, because we all know it's a waste of time!

It could be both, if you are in a situation that you can't get out of that is causing the depression, maybe you should look into seeing your doctor and maybe he\she can prescribe you something to help cope with the symptoms untill you can get out of the situation that you are in.

Since you are thinking about a negative situation (the heartache), you are attracting more negative feelings. The more you think about it, the worse it will get. As hard as it may be, focus on more positive things, and you will get positive feelings in return. Try reading this book.. its called "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. It will really help.

Right now you are unhapy--maybe miserable. I would suggest that you do change your situation, before things get much worse.

I take medication for depression, and I know that I am depressed, and what started it. I just waited too long to get away from the source, and will probably need to take the medication for my entire life--you don't want that for you, do you?
