How old is your cat? Teething cats chew on these things. Do put bitter apple on them and see if that won't work. DO NOT let him chew them. He can get electrocuted.
I really wrote an answer because of the person who answered you saying her/his cat eats yarn & string and that that's a cat thing. It isn't. Eating yarn and string is a bad habit, and it is a dangerous habit, because cats do not digest yarn and string. And sometimes, regularly, cats who eat stringy things that don't dissolve in their gut, get obstructions from these pieces of string. The stuff gets wound around the loops of their intestines and tighten and block the intestine. The tied-off segment dies. And the intestine can and does perforate. And the cat dies, and suffers a lot first.
Sorry to go on so inappropriately in response to your question. But yarn and string isn't food. More to the point, neither are electrical and other cords. Your cat likes the texture of these things. There are some spongy cat toys. See if you can't find him something -- geez, try some licorice sticks -- some kind of toy he can gum. But do get to the pet supply store and get some Bitter Apple and slather it on, lest you come home some day to a short circuit you never wanted to find.

Mine eats rubber bands, cords and everything else he can find. He won't eat real human food. The other one eats pizza and would probably drink beer. I think it is personal taste since many cats like rubber, plastic bags and strings.
Even with many toys and the other cat to play with, he still beats me to the trashcan every night.

I don't know why cats do this, but you can prevent it by putting "Bitter Apple" on the cords to make them taste bad. It can be bought at most pet stores.

How old is your cat?
I had a time teaching mine to leave cords alone, but they're pretty good about it now after I yelled at them enough about it.
