Hi, I am beginning to look for a new job and I was just curious if you all could give me an approximate time frame of how long it took you. I am only interested in the serious professional not a part time job. I have both my BA and MBA and about a year of real world experience. Any advice suggestions, I'm looking to move and relocate as soon as possible for my own sanity. Speficially looking at Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philly, or the NYC area in case anyone has any leads. Thanks

With a BA and MBA, I assume you're looking for professional roles. Generally it will take 3-6 months. That may sound discouraging at first, but, it's the norm especially when you're looking to change geographies.

To speed this process up, do a lot of networking/informational interviews even if you have to do them on the phone. Make a list of companies you want to target in each of the geographies you listed and network to find contacts at each company. There are great resources on the web about how to network.

If you really want to speed up this process, treat your search like a full-time job. Spend as much time as you can networking.

Take a look at linkedin.com to connect to people in your geographic targets.

It will probably take about 3 months, since professional jobs tend to be more strict in who they hire and they also tend to do more background checks (due to all the applicants they get). I would recommend finding some sort of entry level job in the meantime, as much as you may not want these kind of jobs, they are much quicker and easier to find, and you won't have any major gaps on your resume.

It took a week to get a job at the Hardware store so that I could look for a "good" job after college. It took a year to find the job at the bank ( 80M). Still looking for the Job-I-Want.

I wouldn't live in any of those cities.
