The term week refers to sets of 7 years. The entire period involved is 490 years. These years concern Daniel's people (the Jews) and the city of Jerusalem, not the church-"for your people and your holy city." The purpose is to accomplish 6 divine goals. The first 3 have to do with man's sin, and the last 3 with God's righteousness:
"to put down rebellion"
"to bring an end to sin"
"to atone for guilt"
to bring in everlasting righteousness"
to confirm the prophetic vision"
to anoint the Most Holy Place"
The clock started ticking on March 5, 444 BC. The first 69 sets of 7 elapse up to the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem. Then the clock stopped. We are living in an unspecified duration of time between the 69th week and the 70th week, called the church age. The church age ends when Christ comes to rapture the church. Then that final week will begin and God will begin again to deal with the Jews and Jerusalem.

Each week represents a period of 7 years. The first 69 (69*7 years) lasted from the prophecy to the coming of the Messiah. The last week (7 years) will take place during the "Tribulation."

It refers to the time God allotted the people to rebuild Jerusalem and re-establish the Nation of Israel. At the end of this time(70 weeks of 7 years each).....then the Messiah will come. (Jesus). read the entire chapter and the book of Daniel to get all the facts. The Bible cannot be explained by just one verse at a time. It has to be taken into the context of the chapter and the rest of the Bible. Thanks, and have a great day!

24 “There are seventy weeks that have been determined upon your people and upon your holy city, in order to terminate the transgression, and to finish off sin, and to make atonement for error, and to bring in righteousness for times indefinite, and to imprint a seal upon vision and prophet, and to anoint the Holy of Holies.
25 And you should know and have the insight [that] from the going forth of [the] word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem until Mes·si´ah [the] Leader, there will be seven weeks, also sixty-two weeks. She will return and be actually rebuilt, with a public square and moat, but in the straits of the times.
26 “And after the sixty-two weeks Mes·si´ah will be cut off, with nothing for himself.
It's a timeline that prophesied when the Messiah would appear.

The 70 weeks is actually a chronological Bible time line of the Messiah's coming and his earthly ministry. This is actually a topic where accurate calculation is required to actually understand the concept. See www.watchtower.org for more detailed information..

These 70 prophetic weeks of Daniel's vision describe God's dealings with Israel, and are divided into two periods - the first 69 weeks, and the final (seventieth) week. during this period, the messianic work of God will be completed. The 69 weeks have been literally fulfilled. For this reason, Christians must realize that God is not finished with Israel.
Replacement theology is wrong.
