My ex- mother-in -law's dog just died suddenly and unexpectedly. My dog and her's were old playmates. I'm not in touch with her anymore, but I want to send her a card to tell her how sorry I am, but I'm not sure what to say - any ideas?

I was so saddened to learn about the passing of "Fido"- and I can only imagine how you must feel at this time. I just wanted you to know that my thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. I hope you will always keep close to your heart, all of the joy that "Fido" brought into your life.

You're in my thoughts
Sincerely,
John Smith

Some stores sell sympathy cards for the loss of a pet. I know Petsmart has them, and I think Hallmark might make them. If you can't find one, you can always make one. Just write what you feel. Try to think what you might want someone to say to you if you had just lost your pet. No matter what you do, I'm sure she will appreciate the fact that you are thinking of her during this difficult time in her life. If you want to do more, maybe you can make a donation to an animal-related charity in her and her dog's name.

Tell her you understand the love she had for her pet, and you are sorry for her loss. and also tell her you will be thinking about her as she takes the next week to grieve. You can put this message in a note card with a Cute animal picture on it. It could be an adorable picture of a cat that looked like her Cat.

When we bring a dog into our lives our hope is that we will out live our precious pet.

Their entire lives have been spent placing smiles in the corner of our hearts...

Not for one moment of our pets lives did they want to make us cry... or shed a tear

So after they leave, their wish for us is to reach into our heart and get a smile...

Send her a card with something like this inside... so she can open it and read it on her own...

She will love you for caring and sharing.

Good Luck

at the clinic we usually say something like we wanted to express our deepest sympathy for the loss of your pet. then a little about the pet. fluffy was sweet. coco was a character. something like that. or our hearts go out to you. scruffy will be deeply missed. if theres anything we can do please let us know.

this situation is not easy for anyone. so make sure and be personal, kind and honest. not generic. your ex mother in law will appreciate it. but heres a start.

Hmmm.... tell her... "Dear 'so &so', I am sorry to hear about _____. I am hear for you and if you need anything at all just call me. I hope you know that _____ loves you and is waiting for you in the sky." Anything sympathetic would probably work. Sorry about your dogs playmate.

I also know of a card that says, "Stay" on the cover and has a picture of a leash and on the inside it says "If only they could"... You could probably get it at Hallmark.

A very simple "I'm thinking of you" card will do. Then you can write a short note to let her know how sorry you are to hear about the death of her pet.

Just a simple note saying that you are sorry for the loss of her pet should do it.. this way she knows you are thinking about her and that should be fine
