first put a leash on him and let him dag it around the house so he knows it will not hurt him he must have had something to him involving a leash then slowly little by little pick up the leash and praise him and give treats while he has the leash on he will learn that the leash is a good thing and have lots of patience

This is the way almost all puppies react when they are introduced to a leash. I mean, you probably wouldn't be to happy if something was all of a sudden attached to your neck and you were being dragged, lol!
Anyways, first thing first, let your puppy see the leash in your own home- but do not clip it on him. Just show it to him and let him sniff it some. Allow him to touch it and examine it.
After doing this for a few days, clip the leash on him, but do not drag him at all. Let him drag it by himself- but supervise him! Otherwise he could get tangled up and end up choking himself to death.
Then, gently try walking him around on it in your house, but be gentle. By now he should be used to the feel and the sight of the leash so it doesn't freak him out as much. It may require some dragging- but just don't be too harsh.
The pup will learn eventually!

This worked for me. I bought two leashes. One for walking the pup and one for when he sleeps in a doggy kennel when I am I work hooked on his collar loosely. When I come home from work and walk him I carry him with the walking leash ( You don't want to use the kennel leash- pee&poop :P) on. Go a block or so dangling the leash end in front of the pups face so s/he will no it will not hurt it. Put the pup down and take baby steps, If s/he wines pick it up and do the routine again. It takes time but it will be worth it at the end.

First try to bring him in and just put teh leash on teh floor and let him smell it and know it won't hurt him after a few days put it on him but just let him drag it around so he can learn it won't hurt him. Now after a few days pick teh leash up while siting on teh floor and just a litltle tug and call him to you when he is behaving during any and all this priase him.
Now try to just walk him around in the house and hopefully he will accept it. and then slowly take him out where he is use t and thenm further.
I hope if you try this it will work for you
I had it happen once where the dog I rescued was beaten adn dragged by a leash before I got him now he's a perfect angel on the leash.

Put the leash on him then after he settles down some...
THEN
bring him into the house and sit on the floor with him and play or just rub his belly..
let him drag the leash around (careful so he does not chew on it)... let him get accustomed to it in this way..
maybe pick up the end and take him for a treat... do this all inside the house until he is ready to venture out with his leash on... He is still just a baby sweetie.
Good Luck hon

Are you putting the leash on the collar? That might scare him and is afraid that it will choak him. Try and get a harness. The leash attaches to it in the middle of their back. We use these on both of the pugs we have and it helps to not destroy their lyrnx and cuts down pn future breathing problems. Let him drag the leash around attached to the harness that way he gets used to it. Also give him a treat when you put it on. It might distract him and he won't freak out as much. Good luck!

LOL honey that very common for a puppy. If you have a back yard, everytime you put him outside put a leash on him (buy a cheap one cause it will get dirty) let him freak out, runaround, pee on himelf, whatever. It let's him know it's not comming off and over time he'll associate the leash with outside. Hope it helps!

What i did was let my puppy walk around the house with the leash on to get use to the weight of the leash, after couple days i picked the leash up and followed him while he walked a couple days after that i would pop his leash if he pulled. I would do this outside. you adopted him maybe he was stuck on the leash, and he thinks its a bad thing.could be many of things. try to get him to like it on the leash.

I agree with FawneyBlue. I'm going thru the same thing with my new dog - a 2 yr old Bichon Poodle mix who is a puppy mill rescue. He's scared of EVERYTHING.
I recommend two more things - 1) get a belly band or diaper for him in the house to help minimize clean up and 2) remember, in order for him to learn, he has to be scared and work through it. Just keep moving forward when you walk him and practice alot in the house and your backyard. He'll pick it up really quick.
Good luck!

Try using the leash in the house where he is comfortable, and associate the leash with something good, like a reward or something fun. He'll get the point eventually.
