Why do women get credit for "fighting and dying for our country". There have been like 3 women killed all together in the entire Iraq war and those were probably from indirect fire off the frontlines.

Women are limited to non-combat duties and that in my opinion doesn't qualify as "fighting for our country".

Lets face it, war is a mans job. Why do women get equal credit?????

Actually the jobs that women do are basically like being on the lines. There is still a larger proportion of men than women in the military.

Get a life.

How dare you say something like that!

They had the gumption to join the military, and any one who does is in harms way to protect people like you.

Whether they are in actual combat or not they are over there where you are not.

Women, can and will fight for what they believe is right and alot of us will take up arms to defend our country, families and friends.

They are now flying choppers, that are being shot down.

They are also medical personnel that idiots are killing because they wear an American uniform.

If you are so against Women receiving credit for being in a war Zone then maybe:

you need to go live Over there with those people who think women are nothing but a doormats to be used and abused and have no rights.

When a person is in the Armed Forces there is no gender discrimination as far as credit is concerned. It's the macho commanders who deny women equal roles. It's their problem that should be corrected. In other countries, fighting roles and credits are not determined by which lavatory a person uses. War is war and a man's job only because the Armed Forces say so.

Are you kidding me? I am not a hard core women's activist or anything, but women play an equal role, they are away from their families and children, and everyone serving over there is part of the same team. Lets take a female nurse for example, her job assisting to save the limb of a soldier whose vehicle just hit an IED is just as important as the soldiers job of driving the vehicle that hit the IED. Now turn that nurse in to a man, is he better for job because he is a man (and yes there are male nurses in the military)? If you answered "yes" to this question, I would have to ask how? Both soldiers received the same training. Don't get me wrong, some do see much worse things than others, but no one has it easy. By the way, women go out on convoys and patrols, they do go on the frontlines.

My husband's job does not require him to go out on raids or patrol areas and no he is not a cook or anything like that, but there are women in his unit, with the same MOS as him, that are deployed with him, and they work just as hard as he does. Are you saying they don't deserve the same credit he gets? Or are you trying to say that my husband doesn't deserve credit since he is not out patrolling or doing raids?

You should maybe do your research before making comments such as these.

WHY...for one thing, all of those Male soldiers you are talking about could not do the jobs they do w/out all of those "supporting roles" those women do, and many men also. All of those men on the front lines would die in a heart beat of those people weren't there to support and get what they need. The military is not just about who is shooting the gun....its an entire system of people..men and women both, and one part could not do its job withour the other. ANd as was already said, in todays war, there really are not "front lines" or defined combat zones...fighting can break out any time anywhere in Iraq...and women helping to fight right back....Deal w/ it. I know many women who could kick the hell out of about any guy I know.

Well let's see me myself being a 6 foot tall woman who can box and knows karate I think I could probably handle myself pretty well. Actually I could probably kick your ***, it's a pity more women can't fight in the lines. Oh and there are men who perform non-combat duties too idiot should they get credit? lol.

**And BOB is right, I almost forgot about that! I saw that on the news about how a small infantry unit held of what about 40 insurgents. And yes there was female officer fighting and she did get a medal. How about the for credit, thanx for that add**

i am a female (retired) marine,, now living back home in Canada,, for 30 years , i serviced,, as a helicopter pilot i was shot at in Kosova,Croatia,Somalia, Iraq (more times than i can count), i flew in to get wounded out,, does this mean i did not go into combat,, i was there,,,i was shot at,, i was wounded in Iraq,, war does not distinquish gender,, what you want is to have a sign on the side of my chopper saying "dont shoot, im a woman"" ,, i dont think so... Russian women are not "LIMITED" to non combat duties they fought and died in many wars.. are they then not equal.. time to come out of the dark ages and come to terms with the factthat women are no longer willing to be stuck in the kitchen anymore and are just as happy carrying an M16 or flying an AH-1..

What about those gals who are out there on the roads everyday in Iraq who are medics?? Are they not in combat roles.....Iraq is a war zone. And I mean all of it. I was in the Army for 4 years and I take offense to what you say here. You are probably too scared to join the military....so stuff it!

There are no "non-combat" jobs in Iraq. If women are there, they can potentially be in combat. I recently graduated the NCO Academy. One of the other NCOs there (a woman) had received the Silver Star for valor in an engagement as a convoy gunner in Iraq. Women are definitely in combat and are serving with honor and courage. Anybody who says otherwise is either mistaken or full of crap.
