Its healthy to lose 1-2lbs a week - if you are losing more than that then its most likely not fat you are losing but rather water weight and muscle which means you are slowing down your metabolism and will gain it all back
you can drink some green tea which is a good source of antioxidants, you can take some aloe capsules if you are not regular - they are natural laxative (dont cause effects like regular laxatives do) - being regular has a lot to do with weight problems. take multivitamin every day and you can take some extra vitamin B-complex - they give you energy, also omega or flax oils are really good - body needs healthy fats (if you dont eat a lot of fish)
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

I totally freaked out when i read your question I am in the same boat here. I've lost some weight already and 135 is my goal. I was 157 a couple months ago and now I am at 148. I stopped drinking sodas and that helped a lot. drink lots and lots of water. I have 2 kids and going to the gym is not an option (no sitter) and i live in a small town that doesn't offer babysitting at the gym. I have a stationary bike at home and use that when my kids are sleeping. They are like monkeys and like to climb over me when I am trying to exercise, add your children to your exercise routine. Be patient and I post my goals at 5lbs a month and so far it is working.. Good Luck girl. i saw your name verocast, & i thought it was weird 'cause my name is veronica. i don't know if urs is. anyway.. and that jerk who wrote stop eating babies needs to get a life!!! he's pathetic. and skip on the dietary supplements, you don't know if there is something in there that will eventually catch up to you and make you sick.

Im also 5'5'' but I gave birth about 18 months ago. Im currently at 132 before I became pregnant I was 131. On the other hand my problem is gaining weight. I eat about 2 heavy meals a day but I drink a lot of water through out the day. I keep very busy with my daughter school and both jobs. Try to keep busy even if your at home clean, organize, take the baby out. Eat house food and drink a lot of water.

I recommend doing your cardio before you do your weight training. this will keep your muscle gains and not stunt the growth. be sure to lift light weight and do 4-5 sets of each exercise. jogging is the best cardio you can do. if you wanting to lose weight fast then you might want to go without eating for 1 and half - to 2 days then eat 2 small meals repeat this until you reach your goal which if its 20 pounds you could do it in about a month or so. drink alot of water and yes, jog each and everyday for cardio. get plenty of sleep to. if your not in any hurry to lose the weight then eat smaller portions drink water and juices, eat fruits and vegetables. good luck hope you reach your goals :)
green tea extract fat burning pills work well you can get them over the counter almost anywhere.

to lose weight 20 pounds seems a bit steep for one month because its too much on your body which can elad to health problems.
the best thing to do is consult your doctor and tell them your planning on losing weight. they will then tell you the amount you should aim to lose each week.
if not then just keep a balanced diet, a bit of everything dont leave out fats altogether!
and take a run everyday or a swim.
your goal down to 135 sounds just right for your height.

YOU'LL SEE ALL SORTS OF "DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS", I WOULDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING THEM, 1. THEY DON'T WORK, ALL THEY DO IS GIVING YOU A SUPER CAFFINE HIGH. 2. CAFFINE IS BAD FOR YOU BABY, IF YOU ARE BREAST FEEDING, THAT MUCH CAFFINE COULD AFFECT YOUR CHILD'S WELL BEING.
RUN... RUNNING OR CARDIO WORKS, WATCH WHAT YOU EAT AND LIFT A LITTLE WEIGHT TO ADD SOME MUSCLE.
PROBABLY WILL TAKE ABOUT 4-6 MONTHS, BUT AT LEAST IT WILL STAY OFF.
