Hi, I have a rental application that was emailed to me in Microsoft Word. Instead of printing it out and filling it out manually, I'd like to type my application.

When I click on the line, for example the line for name and try to type my name, it breaks the line and deletes the line to type it instad of typing on top of it.

Do you know how I can type above the line?

Thank you!

to united9198 - when i double click, it highlights the line and if i type anything, it deletes the whole line to type in its spot instead of adding the text on top of the line...

Hey thanks, you guys are the best. It seems like an obvious solution now but I've been struggling with it all morning and was about to go to kinkos to ask someone there. I am just typing in the answers then choosing to underline it like you all said. :) THANKS:)) Glad I found this place...

why not type it and then use the "underline" feature, that way you "type over" the line?

What you could do is write where it breaks up the line like you described, delete some of the extra underscores and underline what you typed in. It should look pretty smooth I believe. If that doesn't work, you could take a screen print of it, take it into paint (or another image application) and put textboxes in over the blanks. You can't do that in Word because it wants to move the text out of the way to avoid text writing over text.

You can not type over the top of the line.

You need to highligh and delete the line, type in your information, and then highlight the information and Format > Font > and set the "underline type". That will put the line back under your information.

If it is really a line, and not an underline, Use a textbox.

If it is an underline, type whatever you want, highlight your text, and press Ctrl + U for Underline. It will display a continuous line.

I think if you double-click the line, it will select the whole line. you then type in what you want with the underline clicked on. That will replace the line with text that has a line under it.

The line is a series of characters, these fill even the space above the line. When you type in the characters you type are either inserted into the line, or they overtype it.
