why is it that if you are a grandparent and take in a grandchild to live with you becauseof a bad home life we are not treated like that of a foster home.Foster homes make out very well when they take a child into there home so why shouldnt we as grandparents be equal to them this system is not fair and I feel it discriminates agaist the grandparent.Any other people have this same issue please feel free too email me to discuss this thanks

The foster family is taking in a child they do not know at all. The state has to pay them or there would not be any foster parents.

There are some government assistance programs that can provide some limited help to grandparents that take their grand kids in.

Talk to CPS or to CASA in your area.

CASA is Court Appointed Special Advocate.
I figure CPS must have been involved in this already, but ask them for the help you need.

Grandparents are related so they are somewhat presumed to be obligated by blood in these matters to help whereas a foster home is registered by the state to take in displaced children. Sinc the foster home is not related they get reimbursed by the state for out of pocket expenses. Foster homes are checked regularly whereas grandparents arent and have to follow very stringent rules unlike grandparents. Grandparents always have the right to refuse custody too where foster homes are expected to take a child in unless full

This could go so many ways.

Personally I would take my grandchild in and NEVER expect a penny from anyone especially the state/govt.

The thing is that you can get assistance if you need it. Just not from the foster child system because you are not a registered foster parent with the state. You can get assistance from other government agencies if you really need it.

By the way, the minute you start requesting something from the government is the minute you allow them a say/control in your life.

The reason that grandparents don't (and shouldn't!) get paid for taking in a relative is because... you're related! You should want to help out that kid because that's your blood!!! You should have an inherent sense of obligation to take care of your own. When complete strangers open up their homes to children, yes, they should receive money to help care for those children. Greed has replaced unity, loyalty, and a sense of true family these days. This would never have been an issue 40 years ago.
